My views on Covid, restrictions, masks, testing and the role governments play has changed wildly in the past 2 years. Has anyone not changed their positions on most Covid related things since Jan 20? I was pro lockdown, pro mask, pro governments stepping in, etc. Now I'm not.

NEW on @zeteo_news Sources say Amy Acton's mom seemed mentally unwell when Ramaswamy's ad was filmed & she had trouble keeping a coherent narrative on the past. Some wanted to vet her more but *Ramaswamy himself* pushed ahead. @JSweetLI & Swin Suebsaeng:zeteo.com/p/republicans-warn…

I submitted a bug report about this and tried to get Gemini to tell me why it was programmed to be so insanely stupid and it kept repeating the same boilerplate nonsense every time with no other reply. I had previously paid for Google AI - Canceled that at the end of the term.
I had real trouble believing that Google was actually doing this, but I just duplicated the result myself. The two queries were about a minute apart and identical except for a single digit.

Socioeconomic status was key indicator of voting in Israel's elections. Among Jewish voters, in the lowest socio-economic cluster, Netanyahu's coalition won North Korean levels of support. In the top cluster, 81% voted for the Change Bloc. via @YediotAhronot

Remember those Al-Aly studies that claimed up to 10% of people infected suffered from long COVID and never recovered? Looks like analysing the data properly (eg. by excluding those with gunshot wounds) shows that 100% of people recovered after a year. 😂 pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1073/pna…

NYT/SIENA ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS. REAL POLLS IN MN AND SC! Turns out, the other MN polls are trash lmao. MN ain’t even CLOSE. Parties spending in Trump+12 MN-01 and not MN SEN makes WAY more sense now. Also, SC Senate is basically TIED - TOSSUP! Annie Andrews could actually win!

The early voting blog is updated! Bleak for GOP: The Dems will have an almost 30K lead in NV, or 5.6 points when today's mail is counted. The Clark firewall will be at 45K or so, not seen since the heyday of The Reid Machine when Harry was alive. thenevadaindependent.com/art…

Exactly right. In the US we desperately need lots of small improvements. Switching drivers licenses to include 3rd party insurance like Australia would be a good start. Victims of crashes should never face any uncertainty or insurance penalties. Ever. Yet in the US...

Florida early voting update: Early in-person turnout among Republicans has fallen off a cliff. At R+0.4, the total early vote in the state is about as blue as 2018, 5 points higher than this point in 2022, and 10 points higher than in 2024. gelliottmorris.com/p/2026-ea…

Portfolio manager, investment advisor is flying basic economy and can't read. Then publicly announces both facts to the world. Own goal.
Just got scammed by @united. Apparently basic economy doesn’t include overhead bin. What a joke. This was not clear when booking.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is not a scam. United, among other airlines, explicitly list basic economy bag rules and other limitations clearly on their website as well as in the fare details during booking. united.com/en/us/fly/trav…

100% agree. AI is simply a drastically faster and easier way to get a decent idea of what you should do - you then do due dilligence from there. It's no worse that googling and reading 10-20 sites on a topic to get an idea of what to think on a topic. Generally it's better.
Nothing radicalizes me in the pro-AI direction more than headlines like this. Ban the keyboard this woman types on too! This is why everything sucks and is too expensive. If journalists who write stories like this get their way, then the AI companies will make sure their chatbots always say "see a doctor" every time you get a tiny scratch. Talk to me about hacks or alignment. Don't tell me about AI convincing people to do things that are bad for them.

This is the correct take to me. I can't think of anyone who has been more accurate than Nate Silver. The person might exist - but they are likely drastically lower profile and have likely not made the sheer quantity of predictions as Nate. He's not always right - as expected.
Listened to Nate Silver on Ezra this morning. One of the least popular things I could do on this website is defend Nate Silver, so challenge accepted. His "vibes" have been directionally correct in every Election. In 2012, he fought against the polling unskewers making claims that Romney would win based on undersampling of Republicans. In 2016, his model was famously FAR more bullish on Trump than any others. He was the only modeler who understood the possibility of correlated polling error. In 2020, he repeatedly emphasized the higher than usual uncertainty due to the pandemic. In 2022, he fought back against pollsters (NY Times!) basically ignoring their own data to buy into the Red Wave. In 2024, he said that even though his model was 50/50, his gut said Trump would win. All in all, a better record than anyone else on Election Twitter.

Late Clark mail dump of 5,500 ballots comes in nearly 3-to-1 for Dems, who now lead by 24,395 ballots statewide, or 5.5 percent. I am starting to see blue people...
The early voting blog is updated. More mail may be coming, but Dems have added 2,000 ballots to their lead from Sunday -- it's now 22,500, or 5.1 percent. GOP skittishness must be growing. Almost Groundhog Day-like sameness to the daily numbers. thenevadaindependent.com/art…

I think it'll be better for Democrats if the Democratic Party nominee wins. It would've been interesting for Republicans to try to run an interesting race here but they went with a re-MAGA-fied version of the guy who lost two years ago.

Ron has never learned the meaning of either Public or Private apparently.
NH Democrats: “We don’t want to pay for your private schools!” NH Republicans: “That’s fine. How about we don’t pay for your public schools and you don’t pay for our private ones?” NH Democrats: “No, you still have to pay for the thing I want, I just don’t want to pay for the thing you want.” 🤡
