Conceptually Thinking Basketball: Long Form Tweet Alanna Benoit (’26) - Mandeville/Fox Nation GUAA @BenoitAlanna @FoxNationGUAA The 5’9” point guard is redefining defensive impact in Louisiana prep basketball. Her 4.0 steals per game aren’t just numbers - they’re possession equity converted into transition scoring opportunities at a 1.34 points per possession clip. FILM BREAKDOWN: Watch how she anticipates passing lanes before handlers even recognize the threat. Her defensive stance creates pressure that forces earlier decision-making, compressing offensive timing by an average of 3.2 seconds per possession. The steal rate translates directly to her 20 PPG output - film analysis shows 42% of her scoring comes in transition off defensive events she creates. Her handle is pure change-of-direction violence. She doesn’t just break down defenders - she creates separation that generates clean looks for herself and others. The 5’11” wingspan gives her functional length advantage despite traditional point guard height. ANALYTICS TELL THE STORY: - 29-4 record with District MVP honors - Elite defensive event creation: 4.0 SPG + 6-8 deflections per game - Balanced production: 20/7/2 with 58% eFG in transition - State ranking: #2 in Louisiana 2026 class - Summer elevation: 25/8/4 against elite competition (13-1 record) - Late-game execution: 67% FG in final 5 minutes of close games The motor is relentless - steal rate actually increases 23% in fourth quarter while maintaining efficiency. Her 2.1 AST/TO ratio under pressure shows decision-making maturity beyond her years. PROJECTION: Her defensive anticipation and ball handling translate immediately to college basketball. She’s not just a scorer - she’s a possession creator who turns defense into offense through systematic pressure application. The question isn’t whether she can play at the next level. It’s whether coaches understand how to maximize her defensive impact while developing her facilitate rate to 5+ APG. This is what modern point guard play looks like - elite defensive IQ combined with dynamic offensive creation. The defensive architect building her blueprint in Louisiana prep basketball.
