Gerry Francis, Leeds United's trailblazer for Black footballers, finally has his own mural in the shadow of Elland Road.
It sets the record straight in Black History Month. I spoke to the artist and Gerry's family. #lufc nytimes.com/athletic/7714067…

🔴 Arsenal top of the Premier League
👀 Fulham and Forest better than they look?
🔵 Chelsea's confusing season
😬 And worrying signs for Newcastle and Hull?
This week The Athletic's Expected Table looks at xPts and whether the Premier League standings are lying to us.

Fed some responses into our Ballon d'Or survey.
Liked the argument made by one ex-player on Mbappe winning.
"What he achieved was not normal: top scorer in the UCL, top scorer in La Liga, top scorer at the WC, top scorer in WC history." nytimes.com/athletic/7707638…

Who should win the men’s Ballon d’Or?
That's the question our reporters asked 100 people in football — players and managers, past and present, coaches, sporting directors, scouts, presidents and other executives from around the world.
There were some slightly eyebrow-raising selections.
A current Bundesliga sporting director voted for Declan Rice in second place.
A former international player and manager picked Marc Cucurella in third.
A former Premier League coach chose Marquinhos in third place.
The winner? Harry Kane. By some margin.

Leeds are consistent, hard to beat and consolidating their PL status. Next step is turning draws into wins.
More final third quality needed yesterday. A welcome debate on how #lufc find an extra 10% when they are already firing on so many cylinders. nytimes.com/athletic/7702617…

Daniel Farke said Dominic Calvert-Lewin showed respect for the Premier League’s No Room for Racism campaign after not taking the knee ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

DF: "Physicality we had last season. If you compare their quality in attack with what we have, including benches, there is gap. There is a reason why their attackers cost so much money. We have to be better in other areas to compete with this. We have honest, committed players."
DF on players in the occasion: "Always a special game. Just human beings. Cannot take this away. Want them to play with intensity and sometimes make mistakes, rather than being too cool and relaxed." #lufc
DF: "Only criticism is our finishing. We have not allowed anything second half. Compliments to players for another dominant performance. More quality in final third, could have won it." #lufc
DF: "I wanted to win. Boys as well. Disappointed. Have to say it says a lot about what we have done to feel like that against Man Utd. We were dominant side. Not necessary being behind at break. Good equaliser. Problem was too many strikes over crossbar." #lufc
First hit on today's draw with @SebSB and @reallycerys. Big improvement after the break and the wing-backs continue to be key, but hard to look past overall disappointment. #lufc nytimes.com/athletic/7700784…
FT: 1-1. Overall, a touch underwhelming. Leeds had their best spell in the first half of the second period. Just never quite hit their best level for long enough. A point for the tally, but I expect a lot of #lufc fans will be disappointed given how poor visitors have been lately
Hearts in mouths in the 91st minute. Nmecha and then Stach each with looks at goal from close range. Away defence just about does enough. Ampadu now booked for a cynical challenge on Amad. Santos booked for his complaints. #lufc
A little under 20 (inc added time) minutes to go. It's there for Leeds. They have bossed this second half, but visitors have that threat on the counter. Longstaff incoming. Gudmundsson or Bogle seem critical to unlocking the key moment for Leeds. #lufc
Elland Road bouncing now. Looking more and more like the game Leeds hoped this would be. Gudmundsson putting in a few excellent crosses from the left. #lufc
Corner. Muharemovic with first contact. Flicks down and Calvert-Lewin shows strength in holding off his defender to steer the bouncing ball home. #lufc
