The types of Bolivians 🇧🇴
Every region feels like a different country 😆
(And yes, we snuck our BetterLifers into the middle)
Which one are you?
No winners here. We love them all ❤️
"No city is ideal for everyone." The audacity 😆🤬
Jokes aside, Jake nails it. Asunción gave me 3 really great years, and Paraguay still wins on tereré and many other things. ❤️🤍💙
Santa Cruz just fits my life better, and it might fit your life better too!
Most people expect llamas and altitude sickness when they think of Bolivia.
There's so much more to Bolivia than most people realize. 🇧🇴
We made a video with Jake about the other two-thirds of the country, in our home base city of Santa Cruz 👇

🇧🇴 SANTA CRUZ VS ASUNCIÓN 🇵🇾
@BetterLifeBo left Paraguay for Bolivia…
→ Costs "probably 50% less"
→ Newer apartments
→ Easier to walk around
→ More nature nearby
The downsides are a smaller expat community, smaller nice areas in the best neighborhoods, and a little less stability politically (mostly in La Paz)
The catch?
Both are great
They are both fantastic options for certain types of people, just depends on what you value at this time in your life
No city is ideal for everyone!

Sucre has a famous district called Calle de los Gatos (Street of the Cats). The story behind that name is actually a sad one. 👇

Unpopular opinion 🇵🇾🇨🇴🇦🇷…
If you prefer Tier 2 or tier 3 latam cities
There is NOWHERE that you should decide to base up
Besides…
📍Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia 🇧🇴
Can live like a king for $1500/m. Amazing nature close to the city.
Abundant access to modern apartments
And…
Arguably, the best restaurant/cafe scene among tier b/c cities
No brainer.

That video uses a temporary surge as sensationalism, 2026 numbers are conveniently ignored, as well as all prior years.
This year, January to July, Santa Cruz department: 104 reported killings. Same months last year: 320. Down two thirds.
Latest per 100k:
Bolivia ~4.4 (2026 pace)
Chile 5.4
Paraguay 6.1 (Your country)
Brazil ~19
Crime happens everywhere. “Is no one safe?” is a clickbait title, the same video could be made about Asuncion, Santiago or Copenhagen😆

Gym. Rib eye + wine.
And…
An end of night $6 cocktail
Love it here.
Look at Cochabamba, can it get any better!? 🌞🩵
Replying to @BetterLifeBo
The numbers back you up on Cochabamba. Average highs sit in the mid-20s °C every month, with only about a 3°C swing all year. Santa Cruz swings about 6°C, Asunción about 10°C, peaking near 33°C in January. Worth packing a jacket for crisp June–July nights though.
One of the MAIN reasons that I left Paraguay 🇵🇾 after 3 years
For Bolivia.
The SHEER variety of affordable weekend trips in Bolivia 🇧🇴
Example:
Bolivia has a wine region. Colonial city. Wild tourist region in La Paz.
And...
A city of eternal spring in Cochabamba
All…
A $100-$140 roundtrip away from Santa Cruz
(Plus many great weekend trips within driving distance from Santa Cruz)
While...
Paraguay still has a special place in my heart.
It couldn't satisfy that need for me
And..
When I weighed the pros & cons
It generally couldn’t compete with the lifestyle in Bolivia
(for my criteria).
