πΎ ARE YOU LEAVING GRAIN BEHIND?
One key takeaway from the recent @theGRDC Harvester Set-Up Workshops was the importance of measuring harvest losses & making the right adjustments to improve efficiency.
Now itβs time to put that knowledge into practice!
@FaceyGroup has Harvest Loss Drop Trays available to hire β FREE for members!
A simple, practical way to measure how much grain is being lost behind your harvester, fine-tune your machine settings & keep more grain in the bin.
Don't guess your losses β measure them!

Fumigation timing, ventilation, withholding periods and storage hygiene can all make a difference to how well grain performs in storage.
In the latest GRDC podcast, Ben White and Chris Warrick from the GRDC Grain Storage Extension Team share practical advice on managing stored grain insects, reducing resistance risks and using diatomaceous earth effectively.

πΎ THIS THURSDAY | WE NEED GROWERS AT THE TABLE
Farm safety is something every farm deals with β but what actually makes it practical, achievable & useful day-to-day?
This Thursday evening, weβre bringing local grain growers & farm managers together at the Wickepin Hotel for Safe Farms, Straight Talk.
No lectures. No judgement. Just an honest conversation about what works, what doesnβt & what could make managing safety on farm easier.
Most importantly, your input will help shape a practical farm safety management tool designed by growers, for growers.

10 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO 4 YEARS OF RESEARCH β²οΈπ±
@FaceyGroup are asking growers to spare just 10 minutes to help researchers better understand the challenges of high P-fixing soils β & where research can make the biggest difference on-farm.
π TAKE THE 10-MINUTE SURVEY NOW: bit.ly/4xERwSv
Are you applying P fertiliser but not seeing the response you expect? High P-fixing soils could be part of the problem.
These soils rapidly convert applied phosphorus into forms that are poorly available to crops, potentially resulting in:
β’ Yield reductions of up to 50%
β’ Low P use efficiency
β’ Poor return on fertiliser investment
A new 4-year @theGRDC investment, led by @AgricultureVictoria is working to improve how growers & advisers identify and manage high P-fixing soils.
But good research needs grower input.
Whether you know you have high P-fixing soils, suspect you might, or have experienced unexplained poor responses to P fertiliser, your experience matters.
10 minutes from you = valuable real-world insight for researchers to help shape 4 years of research, better management strategies & practical outcomes for growers.

WHAT IS HARVEST LOSS REALLY COSTING YOU?
A new @theGRDC GroundCover article shows exactly why harvester set-up matters.
After attending a GRDC Harvester Set-Up Workshop, one grower modified his machine. When tested at more than 8km/h, the modified harvester recorded just 0.6% machine loss β compared with 12% from the unmodified machine.
Another grower calculated that reducing harvest loss from 3% to below 1% could save more than $30/ha.
The message? Measure your losses, understand your machine & make every grain count.
Now itβs your chance to learn how.

Rethinking How We Measure Trial Success π€
Facey Group CEO Tina Astbury & AgREC Ritika Menon attended the @theGRDC RiskWi$e Conference in Bendigo in June, where they proudly represented @Faceygroup & presented on our local research on nitrogen decision-making & how trials can help growers weigh up risk, reward & profitability.
One message really stood out from the conference: good decisions aren't always about chasing the highest return. For many growers, they're about staying in business, protecting soil fertility, managing risk & keeping options open in uncertain seasons.
It also challenged us to think differently about how we present trial results. Instead of only asking "What yielded the most?", could we also show:
πΎ The safest option
π The greatest upside
βοΈ The most variable treatment
π± The option that best protects the farming system over time
That's where the RiskWi$e project is so valuable. It shifts the conversation from "What yielded the most?" to "Which decision gives growers the best chance of long-term success?"

CSIRO/ GRDC long Coleoptile research on non wetting soils was on show to a group of farmers and agronomists last week, at the wheat technology site at Eradu, WA. Valuable input from Andrew Fletcher from CSIRO and Matu Peipi from Longreach plant breeders. Deep sowing treatments at 85mm deep into stored summer moisture showed 3-4 weeks earlier establishment date, increased development and biomass, increased weed competition and a potential to fill grain in cooler temperatures than varieties sown dry at 35mm deep.

New national safety data released during #NationalFarmSafetyWeek shows workplace injuries and fatalities are costing Australia's cotton and grain industries almost $190 million, while creating significant downtime and productivity impacts.
The data was compiled through the Ag Safety Data Net project. The project, led by @Sydney_Uni, is an initiative of the Rural Safety and Health Alliance - a collaboration of 9 research and development corporations, including CRDC and GRDC, that invest in work health and safety research.
