I was fortunate to glimpse this climate-friendly future. Commutes on @RadPowerBikes. @strawbale_CR houses built of mud and straw. @wallowaresources rejuvenating a once-struggling timber town. @ess_info batteries powering microgrids. This stuff works.

Step 4: Establish a restoration economy. "Natural resources" used to mean extraction. Going forward, it needs to mean renewal and stewardship: bitterrootmag.com/2021/04/15…

Step 3: Build structures that incorporate the nature that surrounds them. A house in Moab shouldn't look like a house in Tacoma. Climate-smart buildings both feel cooler and look cooler. bitterrootmag.com/2021/04/08…

Step 2: Keep building out renewables (check!), and store that energy in as many places as we can. Li-ion batteries. Flow batteries. Hydrogen. We can use it all. bitterrootmag.com/2021/04/01…

Step 1: Make cities more bike-friendly, and it'll be *way* easier to reduce transportation emissions. What's good for bikes is good for EVs & transit. bitterrootmag.com/2021/03/25…

Thread: In my latest @BitterrootMag series, I looked at what it'll take for us to have a truly climate-friendly economy. The reporting left me ... hopeful!

Folks like @BradSmi say we need to get broadband internet into rural areas. Which got me thinking -- didn't we already do this w/electricity? My latest in @BitterrootMag: bitterrootmag.com/2020/06/05…

Last year, I wrote about M.H. "Dutch" Salmon's lifelong effort to protect the Gila River from dams and diversions for @BitterrootMag, and today, New Mexico's senators proposed a bill to follow through on that work. Story here: bitterrootmag.com/2019/10/04…
Breaking News! @SenatorTomUdall and @MartinHeinrich introduced the "M.H. Dutch Salmon Greater Gila Wild and Scenic River Act," which would preserve portions of the Gila & San Francisco Rivers & their tributaries as #WildandScenic. bit.ly/2Llxl6F #WildGilaRiver
