Very happy to have worked with @Palaeo_JRule and all our coauthors in this huge effort of a paper! He’s done an amazing job pulling this together over the last few years.
Seals have a superpower: they are the only mammals with amphibious hearing! They hear well both in-air and underwater. My collagues and I have a new study in Proceedings B on the origins and evolution of amphibious hearing in pinnipeds 🦭🔊🧪 doi.org/10.1098/rspb.2026.01…

New paper out today, led by my PhD student @Inxcetus, naming a new species of toothed baleen whale. Fantastic work (including the artwork) from Ruairidh, a lot of effort has went into this one! Find out more in the thread below.
1/ A few years in the making, but I can finally share my first PhD paper and my first ever first-authored whale paper. In it, we name a new species of toothed baleen whale: Janjucetus dullardi. You can find our conversation article here: tinyurl.com/dullardi

For this #FossilFriday I'm happy to present my latest paper, written with @MaryViglino. We wanted to know if the convergent evolution that river dolphins display in their external morphology extends to their inner ears. Turns out, it doesn't! royalsocietypublishing.org/d…
