Families and friends of incarcerated pay well over $20 million in fees and kickbacks not associated with actual cost of services. Mass can cover all prison and jail phone calls for only $3.6 million, a rounding error in the $1.8 billion DOC and counties spend on incarceration.

The actual cost of phone calls to & from prisons is much higher than the $25 million+/year that families pay to stay connected. Hear directly from affected people in this video from @Justice4Housing. Learn how you can take action in the video description. youtube.com/watch?v=sCJYrtAY…

🔗We are in need of volunteers to help with the weekly shopping trip to Restaurant Depot 🔗 This weekly collections task is crucial to the success of our Monday grocery distros—details in replies

Restaurant Depot is only open on weekdays until 5pm and on Saturdays, so volunteers must be available during one of those slots. ✨Please DM us if you can help!!
Restaurant Depot is a very large, warehouse-type store, so a two-person team who is able to lift heavy bulk food items and also has access to a car would be ideal, but if you are an individual with a car who is able to help out, please still reach out!
It’s officially summertime now, and as we’re still holding our weekly distros and various other free events, we need all the donations we can get! Feeding people unfortunately isn’t cheap and we can always use funds… bit.ly/SSD2021

🗣Important update about Monday grocery distros! Starting 6/21, please arrive at 4:30pm
Yellow squares with the following announcement in English, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian: STARTING JUNE 21, PLEASE COME AT 4:30 P. M. TO GET A NUMBER! Starting next week, Monday, June 21, we will use a lottery to give out numbers. Come here at 4:30 P.M. to be in the lottery. We will not give out numbers before 4:30 P.M., but everyone will get a number. Everyone who is here at 4:30 will get a number in the lottery. Everyone in the lottery will have the same chance to get an early number. If you come after the lottery you will get a later number. Everyone deserves to get what they need, but we do not have enough of every item. We want to give everyone the same chance to get items before they run out. We do not want people to come early and wait outside for a long time in the heat, rain, or cold. We think this new system will help.
