The national rollout of the SIR has been under the supervision of all three Election Commissioners. But two of them, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, have formally objected, on record, at least 14 times over the last 10 months β€” four times on a single day β€” to decisions taken and orders issued, they say, without their knowledge. #Opinion | Aakar Patel writes: I appeared before him with the raggedy file of papers I have to prove that I exist and that I am qualified to elect those we euphemistically call public servants. The birth certificate and the school leaving certificate were washed away in the Surat flood of 2006. It occurs to me that the state insists I am Indian when taxing me and filing cases against me, but suspects I am not when it comes to voting. deccanchronicle.com/opinion/…

Worth every minute. A brilliant hour deep diving on what pedagogy the age of AI could be and what even is the role of universities anymore.
Dr. Pratosh at IISc Bengaluru tells his students that rapid advances in AI are commoditizing intellectual labour. He raises an unsettling question: if companies stop recruiting on campus in the next 5–10 yearsβ€”even at India’s top universitiesβ€”what will the purpose of a university education be ? A must watch video for everyone in tech

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Watch Train wreck in Slow Motion. Just look at the NDTV Anchors face. From when she realised things going downhill. She started furiously texting. Then she got instructions to get aggressive. Her tone changes. She also gulps when she realises it’s not working

Oh, how the times change! Samay Raina was honoured on stage by Devendra Fadnavis, and felicitated by the same Cyber agency that summoned him during the India's Got Latent probe. Here's what @confusedvichar said back then, and why it still holds up. newslaundry.com/2025/02/13/s…

I was just in Mumbai, and I have to give them credit for the progress they’re making on infrastructure. The new Aqua Line metro is phenomenal. But the amount of work India still has to do on basic cleanliness and sanitation and it is hard to understand until you see it yourself. Would love for more westerners to go just to understand how wealthy they are, but that's a different point. Mumbai is completely surrounded by water, yet there are almost no places where people can actually enjoy the water. The beaches are filled with trash, the water is badly contaminated, and almost nobody swims, even when it’s brutally hot outside. Walking on the beach is just mud and trash meeting filthy water on the horizon. There are much poorer places around the world where people can still use the beaches. This is not just about money. India has gone decades without adequate trash collection, sewage treatment, or enforcement for a population of more than a billion people. At this point, the scale of the problem feels almost impossible, and the oceans around the world are paying the price for Indias garbage output as well. I like the direction Modi is taking the country, but India needs to treat cleanup like a national emergency. Stop with the small campaigns and organize a full scale blitz. Offer unemployed people paid work picking up trash, clearing drains and waterways, cleaning beaches, and maintaining public spaces. Give them proper equipment and supervision. Then build the collection and waste processing systems needed to stop everything from becoming filthy again a week later. India has shown that it can build metros, airports, highways, and digital infrastructure. Clean streets and usable water should be treated as infrastructure too. Mumbai should have one of the greatest waterfronts in the world. Instead, it's has basically an irrelevant feature of the city and feels surrendered to sewage and garbage.

Aamir Aziz is one of the most important poets of our times. Listen to his fantastic new song, β€œDopeher Blues.” Poetry which speaks straight to power in a brutally honest way, and sets a high artistic standard too, is very rare these days. This is inspiring, top-notch stuff.

Nearly 550 students and faculty came together at Khalsa University, Amritsar, for Tapash, a powerful play on the realities of extreme heat. Kudos to the Young Malang team for a moving performance that turned the climate crisis into a deeply human story.
