Just as someone who has drunk a lot of wine and, weakened by it, utters indecent words and sees one thing instead of another; so one who is seized by impure lust, as if by some kind of wine, does not utter a single sound word, but (speaks) only shameful, depraved, vile and laughable (words) and sees one thing instead of another; "He is blind to everything before his eyes, and everywhere he sees only the one for whom he cherishes passion, and, like a madman and a madman, at gatherings and feasts, at any time and in any place, no matter what anyone says to him, he seems to hear nothing, but thinks only of her, dreams only of sin; he suspects everything, fears everything, and is no better than some animal struck by an arrow. A person possessed by anger is also intoxicated: his face swells, his voice becomes hoarse, his eyes fill with blood, his mind is clouded, his senses are lost, his tongue trembles, his gaze wanders, and his ears hear one thing instead of another, because anger, stronger than any wine, strikes the brain and produces a storm and uncontrollable agitation in it. If everyone overcome by lust and anger is intoxicated, how much more intoxicated and insane is the wicked man who insults God, resists His laws, and refuses to abandon this unreasonable obstinacy?
