যাদবপুরে সিপিএমের বই স্টলে গেছিলাম। বিমান বসুকে নিয়ে সংকলন ' আমাদের চেয়ারম্যান' সহ কিছু বই আমরা কিনেছি। ছিল সুদীপ সেনগুপ্ত, শতরূপ ঘোষ প্রমুখ। বইটি আমি অন্য জায়গা থেকেও কিনতে পারতাম। কিন্তু যেহেতু ওই স্টলটি ভাঙার চক্রান্ত হয়েছে, তার প্রতিবাদে ওখান থেকেই কিনেছি। সুদীপ পুরনো পরিচিত। আগে ওর স্টলে বহুবার গেছি। মার্কসবাদী সাহিত্য, অন্য ভালো বইও থাকে। গত দুএকবছর যাওয়া হয়নি। এবার বুকস্টল ভাঙতে বুলডোজার নামানোর প্রতিবাদে গেলাম। সিপিএমের সঙ্গে আমাদের মতপার্থক্য ছিল, আছে, থাকবে। কিন্তু সময়ের দাবি, কিছু অধিকার রক্ষার প্রশ্নে ইস্যুভিত্তিক সহমত দরকার।

Why deploy bulldozers against books?
In Jadavpur, the administration arrived with bulldozers to remove a Left-wing bookstall! Political differences are natural, but what kind of democracy denies people the right to sell books?
Ideologies must be challenged with arguments, not bulldozers. Respect for dissent is the true spirit of democracy.
