Bea Arthur thought John Cleese was absolutely brilliant and so agreed to be in a 1983 American remake of Fawlty Towers called βAmandaβs By The Seaβ as long as she could be as nasty as Basil Fawlty.
Sadly the network kept watering it down until she was playing Maude again.
