What's the best(ish) predictor of therapeutic benefits on psychedelics?
INSIGHT!
Often outperforms mystical experiences.
CF: The first systematic review of insight as a core mechanism in psychedelic therapy:

Replying to @joshkugel
Of greatest clinical relevance, 86% of studies found insight was associated with therapeutic benefit. Notably, the relationship was often stronger than mystical-type experiences, which have received more research attention.
Very important study showing encouraging safety and signals for efficacy for psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy in Bipolar depression. Very exciting to see emerging treatments being studied for this condition which has very limited effective treatments at present.

Incredible week at the INA Congress. Highlights: Prof @sachdevps on covert cerebrovasvular disease and Prof Voon on impulsivity. Privileged to present more results from our #psilocybin in motor function study. Well done to the organising committee on executing a great event! – at Melbourne, Victoria
Amazing start to the International Neuropsychiatry Association Congress with the CARE #FND symposium. Highlights below. Privileged and grateful to join Prof Kanaan in his keynote on #psychedelics in FND. @Sara_Issak @Tim_R_Nicholson. Excited for the next few days. #RANZCP – at Melbourne, Victoria
Awesome to be back at the #RANZCP2024 Wellington conference. Highlights: Prof Colleen Loo on interventional psychiatry & Prof Jonathon Meyer on psychopharmacology. Privileged also to present preliminary findings from our #psilocybin and motor function pilot study.
What a thoughtful study design and interesting finding - exploring changes in Bayesian belief updating, as potential mechanisms of therapeutic response. Well done team 👏 – at Melbourne, Victoria

‘Positive’ inter‐ictal clinical signs of functional neurological disorder are found in patients with functional / dissociative seizures.
Findings fit well with the increasingly recognized (& documented) overlap across FND subtypes. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
📃Excited to share our protocol paper on the first study exploring #psilocybin and #motor function in healthy participants. This informs its research application in #FND and related #neuropsychiatry disorders. @GNielsen_Physio @Sara_Issak @drjrucker psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.…
Very interesting and relevant academic inquiry - likely to contribute to the factors influencing translation. Looking forward to reading updates.

Congratulations to Dr Andrew Gibbons (Department of Psychiatry), who has recently received the 2024 @AusNeuroSoc Illumina Neurogenomics Research Award. This will support research into better understanding a new treatment for generalised anxiety disorder: monash.edu/medicine/news/lat…
Just saw this incredible body of work investigating BOLD signal variability in FND, including longitudinal / follow-up analysis. Very intrigued by the increased SMA variability corresponding with improved outcomes at FU. 👏 @SelmaAybek

Very thorough review indeed, and highlighting crucial areas for improving methodological rigor in future studies. Well done team 👏
Now out in EJN! Our systematic review of neurocognitive performance in #FND spanned seizures, motor, and cognitive phenotypes. We present variable evidence for group differences, highlight common confounds, and suggest future research directions 🧐 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
What an incredible body of work by @DrAaronFobian in developing this therapy, which integrates biopsychosocial principles and can be tailored based on an individual's needs. Excited to see this progress!

Very interesting, thanks @BellevueDoc for sharing. With many limitations to existing treatments in bipolar depression, this is a useful study to explore the safety and potential benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapy in this group. Looking forward to more studies in this space.
