🇪🇪🇸🇪🇫🇮 NEW: Estonia, Sweden and Finland are moving forward with a €40 MILLION submarine communications project aimed at strengthening Baltic Sea infrastructure resilience. According to Estonian broadcaster ERR, seabed surveys are beginning for a new fibre-optic route connecting the three countries. The project includes: • Approximately 300 km of submarine cables • Another 250 km of terrestrial fibre connections • €40 million in total investment • €15.7 million in EU funding • Expected entry into service in 2027 The new route is intended to provide additional, physically separate communications connections across the Baltic Sea. Estonian officials have explicitly pointed to recent incidents involving damaged submarine cables as a reason for strengthening the region's connectivity. The project is particularly significant given the Baltic Sea's growing importance to NATO and the repeated disruptions to critical underwater infrastructure in recent years. Rather than relying solely on protecting existing cables, the countries are investing in redundancy - ensuring communications can continue even if individual connections are damaged.

🇫🇷 French special forces board the “Kaliningrad” in the middle of the Indian Ocean While Washington eases sanctions, France continues its crackdown on Russia’s shadow fleet. French troops boarded the oil tanker DF Peak from a helicopter approximately 450 nautical miles off Réunion Island. The vessel was previously named Kaliningrad and was linked to Russia’s Sovcomflot shipping company. The tanker is under sanctions imposed by the US, EU, and several other countries. The vessel is suspected of sailing under a false flag and illegally transporting fuel. There were 21 crew members on board. After checking its documents, French authorities ordered the tanker to head toward Réunion for further investigation. French President Emmanuel Macron published footage of the operation and declared: “France is determined to fight the so-called shadow fleet, wherever it may be in the world.”

‘Make the problem and the solution bigger’: The plan to end the Ukraine war washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

When we started responding to Russia’s operation against our data centers, and when our strikes reached Yandex’s data centers, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations. Because there were fewer bots. And it’s pretty clear where those bots were coming from – if they disappeared when Yandex went offline. This proves, again and again, that Europe is not the source of the problems. Europe is not the one making everything more difficult. Most importantly, we need people in America, every morning, when the day in Europe is already moving toward evening, to really see what is happening. To see the truth. From a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum. (3/3)

"Gifts to Putin will bring neither peace nor any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will “repay” the diesel with more terror and dirty tricks. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that needs to be ended, not prolonged."
🚨 Zelensky accused the US of weakness and said that gifts to Putin will not bring peace Following news that sanctions on Russian diesel had been lifted, the Ukrainian president published a lengthy statement on his Telegram channel. Here it is in full: Peace never comes through weakness. Today, representatives of the US Congress — a bipartisan delegation — were in Kyiv, and I am grateful to them for visiting Ukraine at such a difficult time. They asked: “What is needed to end the war?” The answer must be strong. There must be sanctions under Lindsey Graham's legislation, there must be support for Ukraine in protecting lives, and there must be pressure on Russia over the war. And today, the leaders of America and Russia had a conversation. A conversation that leads to another. Recently, Europe made a decision to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Since then, Russian strikes and the suffering inflicted on people have only increased. This week alone, there was a brutal Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, aerial bombs dropped on Kramatorsk — targeting ordinary city buses — and constant attacks on Kyiv's energy infrastructure and the vital infrastructure of Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa and our other cities. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded. The Russians are compensating for their inability to achieve their objectives on the battlefield with such terror. This year, Russia is weaker on the battlefield than at any other point in the war. That is precisely why Putin relies on terror. That is precisely why he relies on attempts to reach backroom deals to ease pressure on Russia in one way or another, buying more time and more opportunities to continue the war. Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement with Russia is an obvious sign of weakness. It plays into Russia's hands, allowing it to kill more people, wage war for longer, show even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world. Ukraine is ready to take reciprocal steps towards de-escalation, and the American team is aware of our position. Our strikes on Russian oil refineries and other oil facilities are a response to Russia's years-long campaign of terror against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Ukraine will not set Russian oil refineries ablaze if Russia stops destroying our energy infrastructure. This is precisely the agreement we are proposing to America, and we believe the United States is strong enough to achieve such a compromise. Gifts to Putin will bring neither peace nor any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will “repay” the diesel with more terror and dirty tricks. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that needs to be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is genuine de-escalation with Russia, on a reciprocal basis. We count on America's fair support for our efforts to protect lives and people in Ukraine, as well as a correspondingly strong conversation between the United States and Russia. A strong one, not a weak one.

🚨 Kyiv Mayor Klitschko advises residents to leave the capital for the winter: “It's now a matter of survival” In an interview with AFP, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned that the city is preparing for an extremely difficult winter amid intensifying Russian attacks. He advised residents who have relatives or friends outside the capital to consider temporarily relocating. However, a full evacuation is not being considered. According to Klitschko, that would be “the best-case scenario for Putin” — leaving Ukrainian cities empty. The mayor says Kyiv is preparing backup heating systems and stockpiling fuel, food, and drinking water. But even these measures may not be enough: “No matter how well we prepare, if our air defenses fail, we could find ourselves in a dire situation.”
