I'm not very good at keeping secrets. Especially when they are this BIG. It has been very exciting to contribute to the authentication of this #JMWTurner watercolour of @hamptoncourtcastle Quite the start to 2024. 😃 #Turner #Watercolour #Art #Herefordshire #Arkwright

'Humanity in the lap of the Earth' (1851-2) by GF Watts. Seen at Leighton House, Kensington. Particularly poignant as we are warned about 'El Niño'. #ClimateChange

I find AI an interesting starting point for some inquiries, but treat it with gt caution (much like the (unpaid) secondary sources from which it takes its info). It's often over-assertive tho' (does this suggest male designers?) but it responds well to pushback. #research #beware

Heck. I had missed these plans for the @britishlibrary Sure, the overflow of makeshift desks into the heart was a sad degradation of a great national institution. But this looks excessive, when basic services are still struggling to recover the Library as was. #confused

The final Death Sentence for @BBCRadio4 Long Wave. And it does feel like a death. After tomorrow night (I've heard it ends at 01:00 BST Saturday) there'll be no guaranteed reception of BBC Radio anywhere in the British Isles. share.google/EJZflBtoQZeL... bbc.com/mediacentre/articles…

I've been plugging away arranging book tour dates. I have 46 confirmed, which is pretty good as I don't have an agent. However, I keep encountering event organisers who assume they do not need to pay authors on a book tour... and I want to discuss that in a thread 1/🧵

Had that feeling of being watched 👀 Why have I not noticed this before? Can't decide whether it's giving off Kenneth Williams or Johnny Morris doing an elephant... #KennethWilliams #Animal Magic #WateringCan

My #dawnchorus features kettle drum hammering by this #woodpecker on the metal chimney baffles. Indoors, amplified by the flue it's more machine-gun than melodious. Do hope he finds a mate soon and desists.❤🤍🖤 (Apologies for the camera wobble.) #YaffelBaffle (tho' not 💚)

Queen Mary II coronation ring In fact, it was a gift from her husband King William III many years before the two were proclaimed King and Queen Made about 1677, the ring is currently in the care of the Harley Museum in Worksop It looks brand new.

Apricot-coloured flowering quince - lopped off as it ought to be the white. Suspect it was a spur from below the graft. But a very welcome addition indoors as it opens.

Today is the feast of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, 'Lady Day'. In England it was once the spring quarter-day, when contracts would begin and servants took new jobs, and until 1752 it was also the start of the New Year. A day for new beginnings, new life of many kinds.

Celebrating the birthday of William Morris, born on this day in 1834. He played a central role in the Arts and Crafts Movement, championing the value of handmade craftsmanship at a time when the Victorian era was defined by industrial progress.

Sorry about the wonkiness… I came across this beautiful poem about #ImogenHolst in a collection by Edward Lowbury inspired by visits to Aldeburgh Festival. He was such a talented poet as well as a very eminent pathologist and bacteriologist. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward…
