“Anyone who says a G6 team can win a national title in today’s NIL environment is delusional.”
The real delusion is acting like a Championship has ever been the end game for 100+ teams in CFB. Since the BCS era began, 90% of programs were thrilled with a Conference Championship or BCS/NY6 win. Why is a national title suddenly a reason to voluntarily relegate yourself?

If you go with a 24-team playoff and a G6 playoff of let’s say 8, the chances of any other bowls surviving for G6 teams is probably very small. G6 postseason access may actually decrease.
If you try to do a G6 playoff to crown a national championship:
The best G6 team will be in the CFP so you are not a G6 champion.
The PAC-12 will not participate so you are not a G6 champion.
What are you really winning?
I would rather keep a set of bowl games.
Toledo has been the Mountain West’s focus. It would be a huge get for them! Will they have to invite other teams in the region to get them? Could they also invite Western Michigan or Ohio or bridge the gap between them and other more western teams by adding South Dakota State?
UTEP and NIU are going to be awesome in the Mountain West. All programs go through down times and they have really high ceilings. Montana, Montana State, and South Dakota State would also be awesome in the Mountain West. Each team would strengthen the conference even more.
So you win a G6 national championship but you are still not the best G6 team in the country because the best team wasn’t in the tournament?
My vote is play-in games for all 6 conference champs. 3 winners get in the CFP.
Seems like there may not be a huge appetite for teams to join the MAC from FCS!
