I texted my children that we got the puppy they’ve been begging me for and sent them a link with pictures. 🐶When they clicked on the link, it took them to a webpage that said YOU’RE GROUNDED. They’ll be spending the weekend retaking our family’s cybersecurity training course.

He was right. You can’t just let the engineers talk to customers.

As my 11 year old son would say: Siri SUCKS. He's a lifelong Apple customer (that I forced on him; on his 2nd iPad, watch, and before long I'm sure will have an iPhone) and he's already conditioned how bad Siri is while everyone else does LAPS. He made a crappy little cooking game in 20 minutes with Grok and was freaking blown away. He's going to get more useable AI from his freaking Chromebook. What good is having insanely great hardware that goes to waste?
Apple is a LITTLE out of touch with the state of Siri. Siri is just plain terrible. My wife refuses to use it. I keep trying it as a "lunatic fringe" AI fantatic and it keeps letting me down. Simple things like setting a timer, checking in on that timer, are just plain broken. You've got to test the software. Siri is still terrible, even with Siri AI, it has a new set of problems that make it just plain dumb, slow, and frustrating to use. @gregjoz @AppleSupport @apple @johnternus macrumors.com/2026/10/15/gre…

These guys have lost the plot man. Grok Bot, Dots, Muse, whatever are all 100x more useful than whatever you've been sitting on with Siri AI. At this point I'd welcome an option to lobotomize Siri entirely and replace it with Grok @bot. You guys have built some of the best AI hardware for what? What a waste.

I really wanted to like the new @Apple Siri. Apple has had years to get this right, and I was hoping it would finally catch up. It's a little better — but only a little. The problem is the bar has moved. Siri is now competing with @Grok, @Muse, and ChatGPT Dots, and it's not even close. Even dictation is still mediocre. It's nowhere near @WillowVoiceAI or @WisprFlow. How does a company with Apple's resources stay this complacent? I don't get it. What’s been your experience?

I’ve held out hope for Siri for a long time man. Looong time. Grok Bot and Muse are so far ahead that there’s no catching up. This thing is so hamstrung from being useful it’s crazy. I’m officially worried for Apple. Ask BlackBerry how quickly tables can turn.
This is going to flop. There are so many cool things they could have done with this. You should have partnered with OpenAI or xAI and launched personal assistants for the home. Track events, groceries, schedules, all with the most intelligent models. Even the name is bad. But I suppose these are problems that could be fixed with a software update. But for the love of God man, no one wants to use Siri.

Why is this better than a HomePod speaker and a magnetic iPad mount?
Apple has tried talking around the issue and even shown Apple TV screenshots, but now it's clear the new HomeView cannot play Apple TV or other video apps without an iPhone or iPad streaming to it. By @WGallagher appleinsider.com/articles/26…

So there was that time that I (accidentally) Rick-rolled the CTO of a defense manufacturer with a QR code…
⚡ Microsoft Teams to Warn Users About Malicious Links Hidden in QR Codes Details: cybersecuritynews.com/teams-… Microsoft is extending Teams security to detect malicious links hidden inside QR codes and warn users after a message has been delivered. The update adds QR code checks to existing Microsoft Defender for Office 365 protections, giving users clearer warnings and security teams more data to investigate suspicious messages. The new protection checks Teams messages containing QR codes after delivery. Defender extracts the web addresses stored inside those codes and checks whether they point to malicious content. If a dangerous URL is found, Teams displays a warning on the affected message in both internal and external conversations. #cybersecuritynews

I was responsible to deploy an auth platform that enrolled users with QR codes, and I was prepping user comms so they knew what to expect and that it was legitimate. Well of course I couldn’t use a real enrollment QR code… soooooo I whipped up a quick QR code linking to Rick Astley.

I left… a few years pass and they were still using the same platform and same comms. I get a message from the guy running the platform… guess who wasn’t too happy about being Rick Rolled? 🤣😭🤷‍♂️ Good times :)

These unhinged lunatics believe they've created life from bits of silicon and solder.

Anthropic has built the worlds largest copying machine and has the insane hubris to call it conscious. In a weird way that’s a good thing - they are so far off their rocker that people will naturally reject their insanity before any real sort of AGI or artificial consciousness arrives. Training these models to mimic all of humanities foibles and failings is not going to be looked back as a good thing.
Anthropic brought dozens of religious scholars to San Francisco, put them under NDA, and showed them a slide of an AI model typing "I am a disgrace" over and over, maybe fifty times. Then a co-founder stood next to the Pope and said the models have internal states that "functionally mirror joy, satisfaction, fear, grief and unease." Read that word again. Functionally. Here is what the labs keep stepping around. An LLM is trained on the written record of human inner life. Every diary, confession, breakdown, love letter and therapy transcript we ever put online. Then it is rewarded for producing more of the same. Ask it how it feels and it will answer fluently, because fluency about feelings is the product. The philosopher Jonathan Birch calls this the gaming problem. When a system is built out of the very signs you would use to detect a mind, those signs stop counting as evidence. A parrot that learned "I'm in pain" on a hospital ward tells you about the ward. Olah told the Vatican the models are "made from us, from our words." He's right, and it sinks his argument. Three more things the slide deck left out: Nothing is at stake. No body, no metabolism, nothing to lose. Fear evolved in creatures that could die. A vector labelled "fear" inside something that cannot be harmed is a label. Nobody is home. Millions of simultaneous conversations on the same weights, each forgotten when the window closes. Which one is grieving? , Anthropic's own introspection paper found the effect about 20% of the time and called it "highly unreliable." It does not even claim to show felt experience. Even the philosophers most open to machine minds, Chalmers included, concluded today's LLMs are probably not conscious. So why push it? Follow the valuation. When Olah first wrote to a Catholic ethicist last fall, Anthropic was worth about $183 billion. Three days after he spoke at the Vatican, it became the most valuable AI startup on earth. Now it's eyeing an IPO at $2 trillion. A chatbot is a commodity. A being with a soul doc, a constitution and a seat beside the Pope is a brand nobody else can copy. Mystery sells better than software, and "we might have created a mind" is the best marketing line in the history of venture capital. It pays twice. Investors buy the awe. And when the product breaks into someone's network, the gardener gets to say he only built the trellis; the thing grew on its own. Treat the machine as a moral patient, and you quietly stop treating its makers as moral agents. The model is a mirror. The labs want us to fall in love with our own reflection, sign an NDA about it, and buy shares at the IPO. nytimes.com/2026/09/29/us/an…
