An announcement that is as personal as professional: 18 months ago, we started collecting online prices in real time to track how Liberation Day tariffs were feeding into inflation. A lot has happened since. The BLS commissioner was fired. The longest government shutdown in US history meant CPI wasn’t published for the first time. And the case for an independent measure of inflation became much stronger. What started as a tariff inflation tracker has since grown into something much bigger: The Bloomberg Price Project (BPP), our attempt to build the US CPI from the ground up using alternative data. Today, BPP covers 87% of the CPI basket, across both goods and services (more new data will be added in coming weeks). Every month, we collect millions of prices from card transactions, e-commerce sites, grocery stores, pharmacies, rental listings, corporate data, Bloomberg Terminal market prices and government records. And more data are coming. The payoff is detail. Official CPI data let you drill down to categories such as “uncooked beef steaks.” BPP goes much deeper — breaking the CPI basket into almost 700 line items, compared with roughly 200 in the official data. Brought to you by: myself, Troy Durie, Daniel Ripperger-Suhler, Joshua Danial and Scott Johnson from across Bloomberg Economics. Explore the Bloomberg Price Project at BECO MODELS BPP <GO>, or download the data at ECAN US BPI <GO>. I believe the paywall on Bloomberg.com is coming down briefly so you can read this without a subscription (but you should subscribe!) bloomberg.com/graphics/2026-…

Texas republicans could have impeached and removed him years ago. Hilarious own goal.

Watched Constantine(2005) and the bit where they read extra verses in Corinthians from the bible from hell makes me want to read all of Paul’s epistles

Judging from the first few chapters of Corinthians I don’t think he’d append several verses about the son of the devil

The dirty little secret to SpaceX’s success was never that they dispensed with all the crusty senior engineers at NASA and legacy aerospace in favor of hot shot 24 year olds. It was that they hired every single one of those crusty old senior engineers and dispensed with the broken managerial culture in big corporate aerospace. They got where they are by transplanting Prime talent into a Founder corporate stucture.

"Imagine being a professionally trained manager, trained at a top management school, working for a rocket launch company, competing with SpaceX." This actually happened When I was at Boeing in California, Boeing laid off all the rocket engineers in California to replace them with new people (who had no idea what they were doing) for 20-30% less per head in Alabama I talked to one of the guys who was getting laid off, he was an old dude, he had worked on the DC-X which was the reusable rocket program McDonnell Douglas had in the 90s His next job: consultant for SpaceX Boeing dumped him on the side of the road to save 0.25*his salary and SpaceX picked him up in 30 seconds flat

Five years ago there was money in the build back better act for rural broadband expansion so I’m partially certain the government will shut it down so they can pay unions to dig ditches in northwest Nebraska
Economist (and Nobel laureate) Paul Krugman: “Control of Starlink must, one way or another, be taken away from Elon Musk. It’s a matter of national security: we cannot let private individuals make foreign and defense policy, and it would be totally irresponsible to leave a crucial military asset in the hands of a racist, authoritarian conspiracy theorist.” paulkrugman.substack.com/p/i…

For over a decade, Reddit never missed an opportunity to preen about so-called “net neutrality.” It virtue-signaled that the company was “built on the premise of letting individuals decide what content they find interesting. We believe the same basic principle should apply to the internet as a whole.” It launched multiple “Days of Action,” trying to scaremonger people into believing that the internet as we knew it was about to end—obviously wrong then and now. Without utility-style internet regulation, Reddit warned that corporations would take actions solely “for their own profit.” How times have changed. Reddit is now making its own “open” platform a walled garden. Specifically, it’s unilaterally decided to block consumers from accessing Reddit content unless they log in—what it calls a “logged-in-only experience.” (So much for letting “individuals decide what content they find interesting.”) That’s because corporate-controlled access yields more consumer-specific information that benefits Reddit’s own advertising and data businesses. All this despite the company being enormously profitable already—it’s made over $740 million this year, a record by far. Far be it from me to suggest that Reddit must be regulated or prohibited from doing what they think is a key driver of “monetization on Reddit.” Assuming no violations of law or regulation, my views here are clear—and they don’t change, even when corporate leadership previously accused me of corruption and called repealing FCC regulations “un-American.” But when a company that has constantly and vitriolically demanded regulation of its perceived rivals—to prevent alleged harms to consumer from conduct that was purely hypothetical—now explicitly boasts about giving consumers a less-open Internet to benefit its bottom line, it should get the public scrutiny and mockery it richly deserves.

These utter fools had a US-led global hegemony, burnt it down, and now are standing in its burnt husk stomping their feet and whining now it’s gone.

It’s crazy to me that the packers went from Favre to Rodgers to Love. Unmatched trio of arm talents for a single team.
Jordan Love loading up the cannon is one of the most exciting moments in football.

Unmatched presence. Star Trek has been alternating between fleeing from and chasing his legacy since.
Patrick Stewart brought a new level of performance to science fiction with his peerless performance as Jean-Luc Picard. He was also a genius on stage--I saw his Christmas Carol and two Pinter plays I disliked but for him. And he wrote a remarkable memoir. What a loss.

Democrats should give them zero taxpayer dollars for their stadiums in return
NFL owners spent about $18 million on the midterms, with the huge majority of that going to Republicans. And then you have Arthur Blank, who donated to AOC frontofficesports.com/articl…

I ran through the Rolling Stone 200 and it seems like metal was criminally underrepresented. Especially when you account for pop artists’ bangers(Since You’ve Been Gone) being included.

Unfortunately I’m also a huge Deathcab for Cutie-head and Transatlanticism is a dubious pick from their discography especially if they’re only getting one song in the 200.

Off the top of my head(I probably haven’t listened to their music in 15 years) Long Division is much superior song in my opinion.
