then again, there IS actually a very obvious, visible, and evident coordinated push from AI losers to slander Valve/Steam as much as possible due to the AI disclosures hurting their bottom line in the industry since consumers don't want their slop, but c'mon...
there is a very easy explanation for WHY these posts get community noted: they're misleading at best and outright lies designed to benefit Tim's deluded view of Epic being a real competitor offering a comparable service to Steam
instead of considering that the platform which has been very, very publicly adored for over a decade and a half might just have fans and defenders from its massive userbase the immediate grasping conspiracy theory from AI losers is "what if Chinese bots"
incredible.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIVI!!! I hope it was an amazing one

controller is straight up better in CoD because of the aim assist being so insanely strong
if you have solid MKB fundamentals or prefer using mouse and keyboard it's worth swapping, but it does put you at a disadvantage (i still play MKB like 90% of the time)

i think it's become pretty clear you're not really interested in introspection or, y'know, addressing actual arguments
i'd love to talk in circles with you for a few more hours but i'm sure you can find other people's time to waste
moreover, why haven't any of these competitors actually addressed WHY people want to stay on the Steam ecosystem? they don't offer a Steam alternative, they offer barebones launchers. they're offering a lesser service and confused why people won't swap.

let's accept that a 30% cut harms devs, sure. why, then, are you singling out Steam and not Playstation, Xbox, the Nintendo eShop, GoG, etc.? if we're of the opinion that a higher cut harms devs, then why is EGS taking 12% compared to Itch's 10%? does that not also harm devs?

i mean he's just talking to talk
bringing up wivrn to a long-time VR dev is kind of hilarious, though, that was a solid own goal
Replying to @DoltishRobot
so, you don't have a bigger library, and you don't understand why wivrn isn't actually a steamVR equivalent at all
got it
and where's that library of games that's bigger than mine that you promised?

let's go band for band then
also "wivrn is better than steam VR" lol, lmao even

okay, and how does the cut harm them? there's clearly alternative platforms, or are they just upset that they have to pay for the free discoverability and userbase Steam provides? are developers releasing on Sony or Microsoft platforms also harmed by their 30% cut?

there's an interesting trend where all the developers "harmed" by Steam either A) use generative AI for most of their games (and don't want to admit it to people) or B) work for a competitor that's failing
wonder why that is.
Replying to @DoltishRobot
you don't actually play games which is why you think people don't use these
but hey, it's your choice to suffer on the occasions you do open a game, not mine!
the best alternative has like... a painfully anemic lineup of free titles (because they've given up) and a barely functional launcher with maybe a tenth of the features that people use only to launch a bloated mess of a once great game that's become a lower quality Roblox clone?
oh, and a generous refund system, family sharing, Steam Networking, Remote Play/Steam Link, and several exclusive games with millions of DAU that integrate with all of that natively and I'd actually maybe consider swapping.
I mean that's just what I've used this year, so
community hub, Steamworks invite system, server browsers, screenshots, guides, reviews, activity feed, achievements, groups, Steam Input, Big Picture mode, SteamVR, Proton, gifting, Steam Wallet, Steam Workshop, and a library of hundreds of thousands of titles to buy
if it's so easy then why hasn't anyone? just give me a client with cheaper or free games and equivalents of the forums, community, wishlist, customization, market, inventory, trading, VAC, discovery queue, personal calendar, chat, Steam Cloud, voice calls, Steam Replay,
Replying to @EyeOfScar
The client is basically irrelevant in this day and age. Anyone could build one better than Steam and it wouldn't even be hard. I only bring it up because it's what everyone talks about when defending Steam. Like it's still 2024 and these things are hard.
Steams only remaining value is it's network.
