Found in a Journal of Epidemiology from 1990:
Poppers were once thought to be a cause of AIDS, but the theory was dropped—use was correlated but not a cause.
The paper then jokes that, by that logic, Levi 501s and the Judy at Carnegie Hall album would be risk factors for AIDS

I need everyone, esp in academia, to watch this clip and understand what @mayaywind is saying when she says that Israeli universities are deeply complicit in the Gaza genocide. Hebrew Uni is helping define targets. Tel Aviv Uni is developing arguments against human rights.

"In the West, Israeli universities are considered bastions of pluralism and democracy" but they are "a central pillar of Israel's regime of oppression against Palestinians," says @mayaywind, author of "Towers of Ivory and Steel: How Israeli Universities Deny Palestinian Freedom."

this thread is perfectly right. use-value has no place in deciding what gets taught at a university and that’s good. literature can’t save the world and thinking it can leads to a warped sense of what makes good literature. “urgent” is not necessarily praise

Absolutely incredible authors' note:

ALT Screenshot that reads: "AUTHORS’ NOTE The authors wish it to be known that, in their opinion, the first three authors should be regarded as joint first authors. The order of co-first authors provided here was decided through a mushroom picking competition around the Sognsvann lake, Oslo, Norway. Co-first authors can prioritise their names when adding this paper's reference to their résumés."

The gay man who wrote this cover story from 1981 is still alive at 91 years old. Yesterday I talked to him on the phone for 20 minutes. It does give me a tiny bit of comfort, knowing that paper has always been trash.

very disappointed that in a season with multiple nonbinary actors in major roles on Broadway, the Tony committee still didn’t move to nongendered acting categories. This leaves no comfortable space for the nonbinary actors, and forces them to be submitted under actor or actress.

The blatant ableism of this email about the new ABLE Faculty HDR Conference saying "We expect all ABLE HDRs resident in Adelaide to attend the conference" directly followed by "Unfortunately, this event cannot be offered in a hybrid format so remote attendance is not possible"😒
