The SacBee is calling out the 5 assemblymembers who couldn't even be bothered to vote on AB 1157, the #AffordableRentAct: @AsmPacheco, @AsmDianePapan, @Stefani4CA, @RickChavezZbur, and @BauerKahan. Ridiculous that we have to remind these elected officials how to do their jobs and who they ACTUALLY represent: their constituents, NOT the corporate landlords.

This is not a moment โ this is a MOVEMENT. ๐ฅ
#AB1157 is now a two-year bill. While this is a temporary delay in our victory, our campaign remains strong and activeโ
๐ In just a few months, weโve gained legislative champions, media attention, and mobilized thousands of tenants. Meanwhile, the landlord lobby showed their true colors by faking opposition and exploiting our elders.
Itโs corporations vs. PEOPLE POWER๐ฃ๏ธ โฆAnd we know weโre on the right side.
๐ Other tenant bills are still moving this year, such as
a bill to end junk fees from landlords (AB 1248), banning the use of AI price-rigging algorithms that raise rents (SB 52), and making it easier for tenants to stop evictions (SB 436).
In the next 8 months, weโre building power district-by-district to #LowerTheRent for Californiaโs 17 million renters. From local neighborhoods to entire districts, weโre organizing on the ground, talking to renters face-to-face, and growing a movement that cannot be ignored๐ฃ

We have marched to the building of the California Apartment Association with the message: ๐ซ CAA GREED!
We are tired of corporate landlords mooching off our backs and continuing to maximize their profits while working class Californians suffer.
NO MORE GREED. HOUSING NOW!

Pass the #AffordableRentAct! For every 100 ppl who escaped homelessness in 2024, 118 more fell into it. We canโt solve this crisis without addressing the rent hikes that drive people out of their homes. Thank you to @Ash_Kalra for authoring this bill! #AB1157
