This is an interesting comment that led me down a rabbit hole exploring Panamanian separatism from Colombia, something I knew very little about before reading your first comment, so thanks for that.

One of the issues with resolving this conflict is that the Arab world simply does not acknowledge the European "rules" of warfare, such as surrendering and accepting loss of territory when losing an offensive war. Germany lost 25% of its territory to Poland after WWII. We don't call that "occupied Germany."
Further, an unspoken truth is that Jews were perceived as a weak pushover race, and Arab Muslims felt deep humiliation at consistently losing to them in wars, believing that Muslims should be dominant and unchallenged in the region. Many see defeating Israel as necessary for redemption of their people.
These people cannot fathom, after they've spent their lifetimes kissing ass and eating shit to scamper up the political ladder, that anyone would willingly sacrifice that for a deeply held, moral position on an issue. They mistake it for nearly everything but what it is - honor.

Jordan IS a Palestinian state. Its population is more than 1/2 people of Palestinian descent. Gaza was Egyptian forever.
So was the West Bank occupied before 1967 since it was occupied by Jordan and for that matter, Gaza too since it was occupied by Egypt?
What does that mean "on equal terms?" Israel has been a state now for over 3/4 of a century. The decision of the Palestinians to carry out endless war against Israel vs. building a state of their own, is the ONLY issue here.
