Private clubs & the pay to play model will continue to grow in 🇺🇸, land of the free & home of the brave. Scheduling is the Wild West. All boundaries disappear. The shared school calendar is the best tool available to form a well-rounded adult. To each, their own. Choose wisely

I enjoyed a great chat today with @MzeeDaveJenkins on many things, among them the need to protect low-cost recreational youth sports from a hypercompetitive culture. Travel & rec ball can coexist, but a starting point should be this: no family left out, burned out, or priced out!

We have to stop amplifying these people.
Dave Portnoy is a provocateur and a troll. It works on the Internet because the web is a very nihilistic place where being transgressive is rewarded. Doing it on network TV just came across as pathetic. 🤷‍♂️

I tip my cap to Justin Verlander in his retirement. I’m now older than all active professional athletes in the four major pro sports.
Thank you, Justin Verlander 🧡 JV leaves the mound for the Tigers - one final time.

Children who eat dinner with their family most nights do better in school, have fewer behavioural problems, and are less likely to develop eating disorders. A 2023 umbrella review in the journal Nutrients combined the results of 57 reviews and found that family mealtimes were consistently linked to better outcomes across every domain measured. The review found that children who ate with their families regularly had higher fruit and vegetable intake, lower rates of obesity, better academic performance, and fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety. The association held after controlling for income, parental education, and family structure. The mechanism is not the food. It is the conversation. Family dinner is one of the few remaining settings in modern life where a child sits with adults, without a screen, and practises talking, listening, and being heard. The vocabulary exposure alone is significant: children at the dinner table hear a wider range of words than children who eat alone, and vocabulary at age five is one of the strongest predictors of academic success. The review also found that the quality of the meal mattered less than the fact of sitting down together. A takeaway pizza eaten at the table with conversation produced similar benefits to a home-cooked meal. The key variable was the shared time, not the menu. Nobody has time. Everybody is tired. The research says that twenty minutes at a table, phones off, food on plates, talking about nothing in particular, is doing more for your child's brain, body, and mental health than most interventions that cost money and require appointments. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3744…

No matter what you think about Taylor Swift, it is absolutely good and wholesome to have a celebrity with her influence modeling a happy marriage and adoration for her husband. More of this please!
Taylor Swift shows off her $1 million diamond ring while yelling “that’s my husband” at Travis Kelce during NFL game.

Lots of great rivalries in ND high school sports. My opinion: the Beulah/Hazen Coal Bowl is the best. There's the nickname and the geography, and then there's this... per KDKT radio, from the introduction of the nickname in 1980 through 2025, the teams split 46 matchups 23-23.

In a world with many options, the best way to watch a game on TV here in Dickinson is the pairing of locally owned KDIX radio with locally owned Consolidated cable TV.

As presented to the Dickinson City Commission on September 1st, three of the top four largest concerts in the short history of Legacy Square have happened within the last six weeks. Thank you Dickinson for a great summer! Let’s do it again in 2027.
