I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, what’s harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, “coming in before practice is probably harder”…since then, it’s been my routine….a lot of people looked at the emotions on the court and thought Russ was loud, nah to me, he was quiet and methodical. He lead by example and once the lights were bright, he let everything out and experienced pure freedom. It was inspiring as his teammate and everywhere I went, I seen it inspire people from all walks of life, crazy thing is, he didn’t say much, he just showed up. For 18 years. This basketball life is sacred to us as professionals, what we put into that court means everything. Some of us wish we could go back and do things with a little more intent and some can just wipe their hands and be satisfied with the time spent. Who u gonna be? We know what zero was on…keep inspiring in the next phase of life champ. I don’t care what happens, can’t erase what it was…The first YNs, finals run in our early 20s, all star games, seeing each other get injured and bounce back, the bus rides, plane rides, card games, jokes and arguments, the whole thing, memorable!! …to the whole Westbrook family, Nina, the kids, mama Westbrook, big Russ, Ray, Donnell, everybody from luezinger high and ucla and many more that I’m forgettin, much love and Congratulations on a iconic career.

So why didn’t the Class of 2021 receive the same extension? They were impacted by COVID just as much as the Class of 2020, yet the Class of 2020 received a fifth year of eligibility. Now the NCAA has changed the eligibility rules again, giving the Class of 2022 another year. So why was the Class of 2021 skipped? In the midst of all the COVID chaos, the Class of 2021 spent its entire four-year career competing against older players who had been granted extra eligibility. In many cases, they faced fifth- and even sixth-year athletes because the NCAA extended eligibility for previous classes. So why is the NCAA treating the Class of 2021 differently? It’s as if that entire class didn’t matter. There’s a class-action lawsuit, Peterson v. NCAA, seeking compensation to recover monetary damages for the Class of 2021 due to lost NIL opportunities and the unfair impact of being denied a fifth year of eligibility. I’m just trying to understand the NCAA’s reasoning because none of this makes sense. Can someone explain why the Class of 2021 was left out?
Just so everyone is clear on the NCAA’s new eligibility ruling: Any athlete who was a true freshman during the 2022–23 season and has played only four seasons of competition is now eligible to return for the upcoming season under the new five-season eligibility rule. However, if you were a redshirt freshman in 2022–23, or you took a medical/injury redshirt and have already spent five years in college, this ruling does not give you another season. Your eligibility has ended. This only applies to athletes who fall under the new eligibility criteria—it is not a blanket extra year for everyone.

This is exactly what I was thinking. What's to stop the 4-year 2021 players from now saying they should all get an extra year too.
Really grateful for the 4 years I had in college, but doesn’t this mean the 2021 HS class got robbed? 2020 and before got a “COVID” year and 2022+ HS class gets “5 in 5” 🤔

NEWS: A U.S. District Court judge in Colorado has granted a CLASS-WIDE preliminary injunction that requires the NCAA to declare ALL Class of 2022 athletes eligible for a fifth year of eligibility, per @samcehrlich The floodgates have officially opened... 👀
