Our paper is finally out in Cell! Years of work on one of biology's most beautiful tissue clocks, and finding an intrinsic oscillator that helps organize tissue dynamics. From my PhD work at @LongCai_Lab, with Shosei Yoshida and Ben Simons!

Quality of the data matters! at least for predicting glioma progression from a patient's initial biopsy before any progression has occurred. Excited to share our new pre-print, authored by Michal Polonsky, Jonathan Fox, Yunrui Lu and Sheel Shah. (1/7)

Thanks @Caltech for interviewing us and featuring our work! This is a great layman-friendly explanation of how we used spatial geometry to resolve temporal dynamics and revealed an insightful mechanism for tissue patterning.
A team led by researchers at Caltech has shown that a single snapshot of a mouse testis is enough to reconstruct the entire weeks-long cycle of sperm production, along with the cell-to-cell coordination that organizes it.

The seminiferous epithelial cycle thus appears to be a coordination between an intrinsic Sertoli oscillator and germ cell development. Whether intrinsic oscillators coordinate with stem and progenitor dynamics to build tissue architecture in other niches is an open question
Huge thank you to everyone who made this happen especially my PI Long Cai (@LongCai_Lab), who encouraged bold questions and gave me the space to chase them, and my co-mentors Shosei Yoshida and Ben Simons for their decades of wisdom and shaping the science at every step.

Check out what I’ve been up to for the past four years at Caltech! Exciting road ahead for therapeutic circuits.
Synthetic biology could enable new types of programmable therapeutics. Our new preprint introduces synthetic protein circuits that selectively trigger cell death in Ras-mutant cancer cells, with interesting advantages compared to existing approaches.

Excited to give a talk at @Winter_QBio this Tuesday, 2/18 during session 1! I’ll be discussing our work using spatial transcriptomics to resolve temporal dynamics in the seminiferous epithelial cycle. Come say hello and chat science!
Our hotel also didn’t have any alternatives 🤦
Released my preprint! Here, we leverage spatial information to resolve temporal dynamics in male germ cell development! We reveal that Sertoli cells are precisely synchronized with periodic germ cell development and have an innate cyclic program independent of the germ cells!
Our new preprint with S.Yoshida and B.Simons! Led by @ChakraArun, we leverage spatial information to resolve temporal dynamics in spermatogenesis!

Also check out a complementary preprint by S.Y. and B.S using live imaging! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Some work during my time at Rockefeller showing how fruit flies navigate decision making! Finally out in @Nature.
It's out! Curious to know what happened in your brain to make you stop and read this tweet 🤔?
We found a rise-to-threshold process in specific fly brain neurons for a "similar" type of decision! @Nature

How do tissues generate diverse cell types in defined proportions that vary across space and evolution? Our new preprint presents Lineage Motif Analysis (LMA), a statistical approach that extracts generative fate programs from observations of cell fates on lineage trees. /1

Paper is out! #Drosophila 'know' what's best! Flies build an internal expectation of the substrate options in their environment and use it to make informed egg-laying decisions. science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
