Dear Canada, does a more up-to-date source exist for charities / non-profits? The most recent I found was 2016: open.canada.ca/data/en/datas… #Canada #NonProfits #OpenData #Charities #GovernmentOfCanada #OpenGovernment

Also for the 2016 data, I can only find categories for 'programs' (with max 3 per org), but not for the charities themselves. Does this exist?
More categories to filter (for same set of countries): I grouped a bunch of categories inside 'community', since countries use quite a wide and different set.

For charity in screenshot, they do use dogs for education🐶🧒📖 ".. recruited, accredited, trained and placed over 120 new volunteer dog teams during 2017/18. We partnered with 80 new schools. We are now helping over 2000 young children learn to read every week across Australia.

Added tests and fixed some bugs. Was also able to sneak in a 🐱 ` for cat in animal_category_list: if cat in purr: animal = 1 # Meow!` github.com/juliuszelf/global…
Looking at the Flask logs, there are many attempts at presumed weak paths. Not a security issue for the search engine, but it does 🔥 resources.. Any best practice on blocking traffic like that? Should stop at #Flask, #ngnix, #Docker or #DigitalOcean? #firewall

After a little research, I see three ways to go about this: 1) Install and configure #fail2ban, not super sure yet if this would be installed in the ngnix docker container or the docker host. 2) Use Docker Firewalls. Not sure if this would actually help. 3) Setup #ngnix rules.
Search result now shows 100 results per page and pagination. Highlight every 10th result so you don't get lost.

The #ElasticSearchDSL python library made it quite simple to add pagination. elasticsearch-dsl.readthedoc…
I'd like to add AJAX calls, for more smooth experience without page refresh. But I also don't want to break it for those who disable javascript, and want to keep the search parameters in URL. All doable, but more work then has priority. So for now I'll first add pagination.
You can search now at charitius.org 🌍💙🧐 Goal is to create a global charity search engine. Love to get feedback on what would make it great for you! #charities #nonprofits #search #MVP #charity #SearchEngine #Charitius #Christmas2019 #Flask #ElasticSearch

The #Charitius name is Charity & Julius (I'm @julius) merged. Not that I'm so important, but it's hard to come up with a good name 🤔 that is: - Short - Available domain name - Easy to remember - Has a charity/non-profit relation

👨‍💻 The code of the search engine and the scripts taking the #opendata public source files and prepares them for search is over here: github.com/juliuszelf/global… #opensource #opendata #search #elasticsearch #makefile #Flask #github
Logo now SVG, header white. A small increase in speed & looks 🎨
Working to add #ngnix to my setup, a more proper and efficient way to handle web-traffic then my current setup. I've got it locally working. Expect to put it live tomorrow, should probably speed up search engine quite significantly.

Have it working. Smaller files to download (gzipped), better caching and probably more benefits. The site is super simple, but fun to see how much quicker I can get it, I'm thinking about: - Logo in .svg - Remove bootstrap styling - Search via ajax calls (no page reload)

After that, I'll need to add an About page, pagination and put it on its own domain name. Then I'd say there is a version 1.0 of the site.
