Today's Guardian investigation should alarm anyone who cares about consumer protection. Unlicensed gambling operators are now so emboldened they're hijacking the brands of Tesco, Barclays and other major British companies to scam UK consumers.

Since the Gambling Act came into force in 2007, gambling’s share of UK household spending has fallen 27%. Only tobacco has fallen faster. Sport and culture are up over 20%. Hardly the gambling free-for-all campaigners describe.

👋 David Raya reveals why he left Blackburn: 🗣 "Decision going to Brentford was my relationship with the boss at Blackburn. It kind of broke in a bit. Like it wasn't the same and I think I needed another challenge. Like I said before, coming from the academy and playing for the first team, it fills you up. Then you have the downsides, where you feel you're not appreciated in a way. So I had to opportunity where Brentford wanted me to go Inyaki, my goalie coach from Arsenal. Same as John Keeley, he saw something in me when we played Brentford." #BRFC | #Rovers | #BrentfordFC

A stark reminder that the illegal gambling market poses a very real threat to customers. Further rax rises on regulated operators will only make it easier for criminal operators to compete and grow.
What connects Tommy Robinson, Bonnie Blue, Leicester City FC, the tiny African island of Anjouan and an apparently respectable family of property investors from Mill Hill? It's a strange tale... theguardian.com/society/2026…

We’re still seeing the slow burn effects of the last budget play through on Racing and Betting and it really hasn’t been pretty. If they double MGD in this one, I genuinely think it will mark the point of no return for Horse Racing in the UK

Behind every betting shop are colleagues, customers and local communities. As the debate continues, the thousands of people who rely on and value these venues deserve to be heard.
Higher taxes on betting shops will threaten UK jobs, communities and high streets. For marketplace manager Jake, shop closures would be a disaster for customers who see them as a safe space to chat, socialise, and feel part of the local community.
