I loved the #Peacemaker Season 1 finale (see below). I wish I felt the same way about the Peacemaker Season 2 finale because that was an utter snorefest. It showed us the limits and cheesy instincts of #JamesGunn ‘s writing sometimes. AND NO, IT WASN’T BECAUSE IT DIDN’T HAVE SOME BIG ACTION SEQUENCE OR BIG CAMEO. I see some people saying that nonsense to denigrate people not liking this finale. It tried to do character development and provide depth for its characters yet it failed miserably at both. It chose to go the LIFETIME route to resolve the deep, emotionally complex issues that these characters had been dealing with all season. “All it takes is one conversation and we’re all fine now, y’all!” They had characters make confounding 180s that weren’t explained at all. Rick Flag Sr. was suddenly a completely different character than he was in Superman or Creature Commandos. And apparently, enjoyed laughing with that Lex Luthor crew while members of his team died. And he didn’t even notice people leaving his team to join another team including the person he was sleeping with! Sure, you could say “well this meant that and that’s why they did so and so”, but they just didn’t build up to it well or lay out the groundwork for it effectively at all. Plus, I couldn’t be more done with that flaccid, boring and ridiculous Lex Luthor crew. They felt like the villains in a bad Scooby Doo episode. I was so on board with this season and enjoying it…right up until this stunning let down of a finale.
