Shallow evangelicalism is a plague. It has completely undermined the pursuit of deep, biblically-rooted faith in Jesus Christ and associated worship and practice. It's almost entirely consumption oriented, transactional, and man-centered. As a result, the lives of many who identify as Christians are indistinguishable those of their pagan neighbors.
Itβs official: Christianβs donβt know the basics about the book we stake our lives on. I wrote about it at @thegospelcoalition today in conjunction with the release of results of a Bible literacy survey conducted by Lifeway Research.

This stuff is just so historically ignorant, & it hopes you are to. There's *never* been a time where we've had actual Christian politicians.
Check the "Christianity" of average GOP Senator ca. 1960. It's indistinguishable from Talarico's garden-variety theological liberalism.
Daniel 7:13-14, which is part of tonight's bible study at @FaithPresGF
βI saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed."

βLet us consider, then, what would be the tragic effects of splitting the Lord's Day from its true home in the original, universal Sabbath. To denude Christianity of a Sabbath is to disconnect the Christian day of worship from God's eternal holiness. It is to lose the reflective, penetrative power of this most beautiful moral quality of God shining through the rhythms of time.
This may be one of the reasons why our Protestant countries have been unable to withstand the trends of secularism, with its inundation of sheer materialism and depressing worldliness. It is because we have willingly abandoned this one day in seven, in which for centuries the transcendence of God has, as it were, poured into our culture's psyche and awareness. We are becoming a people without any vital sense of transcendence, a people for whom there is nothing beyond the material world. And what a depressing message this is to an age that is crying out for spirituality, desperately seeking anything beyond crass materialism.β

This is a principle exercise of our faith to put our trust in God, even when we see nothing. God, indeed, will oftentimes show us a land wherein he granteth us an abiding-place; yet, nothwithstanding, because we are strangers in the world, we have no certain and continual place of abode anywhere. Again, our life, as Paul saith, is hid (Col 3:3) and being like unto dead men, we hope for salvation, which is hid in heaven. Therefore, as touching on our perpetual habitation, God doth cause us to depend upon his providece alone, when he commendeth us, as it were, to wander in a strange country.
John Calvin on Acts 7:3.

I'm begging you all, please read The Athanasian Creed.

The Trinity is easier to understand than people think.
Hi, my name is Brian.
My parents call me son. As their son, I have a particular role, and the way I speak and act reflects that relationship.
My wife calls me husband. As her husband, I have responsibilities, and my words and actions reflect the love, commitment, and honor I owe her.
My children call me father. As their father, I have a sacred duty, perhaps the greatest responsibility I've ever been given. How I speak, act, and lead reflects that calling.
One person. Three names. Three distinct relationships, each with its own responsibilities and expressions of love.
Yet in every role, I remain the same person, working toward the same purpose.

Triune God, we are weak vessels who are unable in and of ourselves to appear before your glorious majesty. We are only able to do so on the basis of your electing love and grace, which you have given irrevocably to us in the mediator, Jesus Christ our Lord. Father, we know that man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that comes from your mouth. We are in great need of this holy food, and therefore ask for the illumination of your Holy Spirit, that the Word now read and proclaimed before you might become as manna to our souls. Lord, in your mercy, please grant our petition and request, for it is in Jesusβ name we pray. Amen.

"To Whom Is Baptism to Be Administered?"
forchristskingdom.com/2026/1β¦
In this blog post, I explain question 95 of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, which is about how baptism is to administered to those who profess their faith in Christ and obedience to him, and to their children.
HELP: I need a copy of an essay which appears in this festschrift: jstor.org/stable/jj.35841813
I have academic access as an seminary alumnus to a variety of academic resources, but not this particular one. Can anyone out there help me?
"This too is an important point for us to understand. God is not committed to our comfort. He is not committed to making our path through life smooth. He is committed to sanctifying us and demonstrating his own glory in and through us; and, very often, that commitment means he will subject our earthen vessels to pressures that would certainly shatter us, were his grace not sufficient for us. The Lord will take you into the eye of the storm, to show that he is the storm's master and that he can make your fragile vessel float safely through to the other side. His wonderful plan for your life is to sanctify you through trials and tribulations (1 Peter 1:6-7)."
- Iain Duguid, "Daniel", 97.
I love serving this church. @FaithPresGF began when the new congregation particularized in the PCA in 1995. In 2007, the church relocated to what was then the Grand Cities Mall (now known as Midtown District), occupying a large office in the profession office wing. In April 2008, the congregation moved into a mall space formerly occupied by a local florist. And then, just over 4 years ago, we moved into this current space (an old Radio Shack). In June 2016, the church decided to transfer into the OPC and was subsequently received as a mission work under Carson/Bismarck (now Mandan). I was called to the pastor on January 15, 2017 and was installed July 31, 2017.
May the Lord continue to grant us his mercy and grace in the years to come. If you're ever in the Grand Forks area, we'd love to have you join us for worship!
The Chalcedonian Definition exists because of attempts like this.

Truly God, truly man.
