The analysis covers the device teardown and UART pin identification, firmware extraction via chip-off with flashrom, and static analysis using binwalk and Ghidra to recover the hardcoded U-Boot password, then privilege escalation to root by abusing a writable boot script on the JFFS2 partition. It also covers plaintext Wi-Fi credentials stored on the device and an unauthenticated live stream found on 15,000+ internet-exposed cameras. Organized by Cipher, a specialized cybersecurity awareness session for insurance companies was held at the headquarters of the Syrian Federation of Insurance Companies, in collaboration and coordination with the Federation. The session was attended by the Secretary General of the Federation, the Director General of the Insurance Supervisory Authority, Cipher’s Deputy CEO, as well as several General Managers of Medical Expense Management Companies and IT Managers from insurance companies. The session highlighted the importance of cybersecurity as a key priority for insurance companies, particularly amid the growing reliance on digital systems and increasing risks related to data protection and electronic systems. It emphasized the need to enhance cybersecurity readiness and strengthen organizations’ ability to respond effectively to cyber threats. The discussion also covered disaster recovery and business continuity in the event of data loss, the importance of having clear incident response and system recovery plans, as well as key regulatory compliance requirements related to cybersecurity across several neighboring countries.
