Approximately six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust by Nazi Germany and its collaborators, including children, women and elderly people, with millions murdered in extermination camps and many victims killed through poisonous gas. Children were among those deliberately targeted and murdered simply because they were Jewish. That terrible history should reinforce the importance of rejecting antisemitism, discrimination and dehumanization. UNGA81 WALKOUT: DIPLOMATIC COWARDICE AND IRAN’S ESCALATION AGAINST ISRAEL MUST NOT ESCAPE ACCOUNTABILITY The mass walkout by dozens of delegates during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly deserves condemnation in its strongest terms. The United Nations is supposed to be a forum where governments listen and discuss with one another not a chamber where representatives flee the moment a world leader takes the podium. Delegates walking out rather than listening to the speech of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu amounts to political cowardice and unprecedented bias. The UN must not become a place where governments choose to openly show their political hatred for the only democratic nation in the Middle East. Iran deserves particularly forceful condemnation. The Iranian regime has continued supporting armed groups that have attacked Israel and other states. This is not simply ordinary diplomatic disagreement; it is a pattern of using armed proxies and military force to project Iranian power beyond its borders. Iran should not be permitted to present itself as merely an observer of regional violence while armed groups aligned with it participate in hostilities. The international community should call this strategy what it is: a dangerous campaign of proxy warfare and regional destabilization that places Israel and international security at risk. Recent regional reporting has specifically identified Iran-backed Houthi attacks and continuing conflict involving Iran-aligned forces. There should be no diplomatic euphemisms and no selective outrage when Israel is deliberately targeted. Iran's support for armed groups cannot be excused nor should the Iranian regime be allowed to hide behind proxies while attempting to escape accountability for the consequences of the violence it openly perpetrates. Missiles, armed proxies, terrorism and intimidation by Iran and her proxies should be condemned in its strongest terms. The international community must reject the dangerous normalization of Iran's proxy warfare and the political culture that excuses violence against Israel while condemning Israel for defending itself. Iran must be confronted—not appeased—with the clear message that supporting attacks against Israel, empowering armed proxies and destabilizing neighboring states cannot be treated with kids gloves anymore. The UN should be a place where Iran and every other government is required to answer difficult questions, not a stage from which they can walk away when challenged. No government, militia and no ideological cause should be granted immunity from accountability. The decision by referee Georgi Kabakov to send off Israel’s Saied Abu Farchi against Austria deserves serious scrutiny. What exactly did Abu Farchi do? He removed the corner flag during his goal celebration—and then put it back. He did not break it. He did not damage it. He did not destroy football equipment. Yet this was interpreted by Kabakov as a cautionable offence, resulting in a second yellow card and a red. That distinction matters. Breaking or damaging the corner flag is one thing. Temporarily removing it during a goal celebration and replacing it is another. There is no football rule that says the latter automatically warrants a yellow card. But the more troubling question concerns the interpretation of his gesture as a “gun” celebration. Football has seen this celebration before. Robbie Keane famously used the gun gesture as his trademark goal celebration. Kanu did the same during his Arsenal career. Arsenal itself has a cannon as part of its historic identity. And beyond football, shooting is itself a legitimate competitive sport, with athletes competing internationally in shooting disciplines. So why should the mere visual representation of a gun automatically be classified as “unsporting” in a sporting environment? The same question becomes even more compelling when we consider Rasmus Højlund, now playing for Napoli, who has celebrated goals with a throat-cutting gesture—an image with an unmistakably violent visual association. Yet that celebration has not produced the kind of second-yellow-card punishment imposed on Abu Farchi. So why was Abu Farchi’s celebration interpreted so differently? Trump’s right is further affirmed in the 2025 Associated Press v. Budowich (D.C.) which stipulates that provisions of the First Amendment are not binding on spaces like the Oval Office, Mar-a-Lago, Cabinet room and similar areas where the President of the United States resides. In his judgement call as chief custodian of a bipartisan mandate, Trump has rightly accused these outlets of weaponising privileged access to the White House to repeatedly produce false, negative and unfair coverage of his administration. His position is straightforward: no media house is entitled to White House access. The call is further necessitated following reported incidents relating to security and accuracy. For many decades, low to no public trust has continued to plague traditional legacy media even as millions of Americans decry the worsening worrisome partisan media coverage. Trump first sought to confront this issue with the introduction of ‘new media’ alternatives to the white house press pool in January 2025. In an age where social media companies are being penalised for failing to regulate content shown to users, Trump’s decision is, in fact, an attempt to demand greater accountability from media organizations with power to influence public opinion. The access revocation in no way prevents CNN, MS NOW or Politico from reporting on Trump. They remain free to investigate, criticise and publish stories; however their bias can no longer be veiled under the cloak of exclusivity equals credibility of prejudice. Following the September 24 ruling, which temporarily ordered the administration to restore access pending dispute resolution, the White House must double down on its scrutiny of media houses over safety and the weaponisation of privileged information for propaganda.
