There is too much misery in British supply chains, some linked to public procurement, and it needs to be better understood. @unisontheunion write up of today's Just Values report is a great place to start understanding it and what we should do about it: unison.org.uk/news/2026/10/r…

Great to see my latest report make the front page. Today's report - Just Values - explores the cost of labour exploitation and environmental harm and how to promote human rights through Britain's home and international value chains.
▫ We're all paying a high price for forced Labour ▫Corporate harm costs Britain £4.4bn a year ...10 times the cost of preventing it, says the Fabian Society ▫@Berny_Torre ▫tinyurl.com/26uhc3mh @M_Star_Online #frontpagestoday #UK

I’m deeply saddened to hear that Pat Karney has died. Pat gave nearly 50 years of his life to serving Manchester. He saw the city through some of its toughest times and played his part in the growth and transformation that followed. I knew Pat for many years. He loved Manchester deeply and was a tireless champion for the people he represented. I’ll miss him greatly. My thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew and loved him.

We pay tribute to Cllr Pat Karney who died last night after serving our city as a Councillor for nearly half a century. Pat was a giant of Manchester politics. You were a true one-off, Pat. Thank you for your years of service. orlo.uk/Tributes_councillor_…

Really interesting collection. My small contribution: - Towns and cities must pull together to reindustrialise and grow - We have a more diverse set of high-potential industries and places than is often supposed - Devolution and transport are catalysts for reindustrialisation
Our new pamphlet: GROWTH Featuring a foreword by the growth minister, @dantomlinsonmp , the pamphlet brings together authors from across a vast swathe of the left and centre to explore how Britain can put its economy back on track.
