#FAQs | On the Asylum Applications and the Constitutional Court Judgment
Did the Constitutional Court rule that everyone entering South Africa illegally becomes a refugee? No. The Court did not grant refugee status, asylum, permanent residence or citizenship to anyone.
The judgment only relates to access to the asylum application process, and every application must still undergo assessment and verification in terms of the Refugees Act.
