What does it mean to have a growth Monday ritual?
Mark Few explains the process Gonzaga uses to work on mental toughness and adversity.
"We spend probably 25-30% of the athlete's time now on mental."
Then he explained what that looks like: "We do this thing called PGMs - Personal Growth Mondays."
"We start every Monday with this Personal Growth Monday. Staff, myself, coaches aren't allowed in there. It's just the players and Travis Knight, our strength coach and mental coach."
They invest the time every week. You can't let the mental game be an afterthought.
"They can dive into a myriad of anything that's currently happening or that they've requested...Processing pressure. Processing expectations. Lack of confidence. Hitting adversity. Handling success."
The best teams train the mind, the body, and develop the person.
Your mind is affected by your daily thoughts, habits and unconscious biases.
Mental fitness helps you build resilience and thrive.
Without investing time in mental fitness, managing stress, anxiety, and challenges becomes harder.

Stats donβt build culture.
Screens. Charges. Loose balls. Doing the little things for your teammates.
The things that donβt show up in the box score are often what make teams great.

The best coaches are great teachers. Not only do they have a vast knowledge of their sport, but they also know how to teach it to every one of their players.

Beyond grateful to have learned from you on the West High staff and shared your final season on the sidelines. Your lessons on leadership and leaving places better than you found them will stick with me forever.

Most golfers lose shots on uneven lies because they try to swing the same way they do on flat ground.
Uneven lies used to mess me up until I figured out a few simple rules that actually work.
First always club up and take a shorter more controlled three quarter swing. Align your shoulders with the slope of the ground and just focus on solid contact instead of trying to be perfect.
Ball above your feet it wants to go left so choke down stand taller and a bit closer then feel a flatter baseball style swing. Aim a little right.
Ball below your feet it wants to go right so grip full length widen your stance and sit down into it. Keep the weight in your heels and stay in that squat through impact. Aim a little left.
Uphill lie the ball comes out high and short so put it closer to your higher foot let the weight stay on the back foot and swing up the slope. Take one more club.
Downhill lie it comes out low and hot so put the ball back in your stance match your shoulders to the slope and swing down it. Account for the extra roll.
Once these feel natural the bad lies stop costing you so many shots.

John Wooden shares a mindset that we all need to adopt every day.
"Yesterday is gone. That'll never change. Tomorrow is yet to be."
"How can you affect tomorrow? By today. That's the only possible way."
"I tried to get each player to make each day his masterpiece."
Don't get caught up in the past or worry about the future - make today your masterpiece.
Then he shared advice he gave to certain players:
"You've gotta put the past out. Good or bad, it's past - it'll never change. The only way you can affect the future is what you do today."
You can't change yesterday. You can't control tomorrow. You only have today.
Then he recited a poem by Vivian Larimore that he loved:
"I've shut the door on yesterday, its sorrows and mistakes. I've locked within its gloomy walls past failures and heartaches."
"And now I throw the key away to seek another room and furnish it with hopes and smiles and every springtime bloom."
"I've shut the door on yesterday and thrown the key away. Tomorrow holds no fears for me, for I have found today."
"Today is the day that counts. It's today."
The present moment is the only place where you can truly make a difference.
Don't carry yesterday's failures or worry about the unknown.
Focus on what you can control.

12 GOLF TIPS FOR BEGINNERS β³ποΈ
1. Breaking 100 Should Take You 2 Years.
If you're getting there in 6 months, you're either a freak athlete or lying about your score. Most people need 50+ rounds to build a real swing.
2. Your Driver Is Killing Your Score
Tour players hit 8 fairways pe.r round and still shoot under par. You hit 2 and wonder why you're at 95. Put it away until you can hit a 7-iron straight.
3. The Range Is Making You Worse.
Youβre grooving a swing that only works on flat lies with perfect grass. Play 9 holes instead of hitting 100 balls into a field.
4. Putting Saves 10 Strokes, Not Your Swing.
You three-putt six times a round and blame your driver. Tour players make everything inside 8 feet. You miss from 3. That's where your score lives.
5. Course Management Beats Talent Every Time.
The guy shooting 82 isnβt more talented than you. Heβs just hitting 8-iron to the middle of every green while youβre aiming at tucked pins with a 5-iron.
6. Your Grip Is Wrong And You Donβt Know It.
You learned it from your buddy who shoots 98. Tour players spend months getting their grip right. You spent 30 seconds and wonder why nothing works.
7. Slow Backswings Are For People Who Break 80.
You're rushing because you're scared of the ball. Tour players take the club back slow because they trust their swing. You don't have a swing to trust yet.
8. Bad Shots Happen To Everyone, Recovery Doesn't.
Tour players hit it in the woods once a round. They punch out, make par, and move on. You try to be a hero and make triple.
9. Lessons Cost Less Than New Clubs.
You just bought a $600 driver to fix a swing flaw that a pro could fix in 20 minutes for $80. Your clubs aren't the problem.
10. Chipping Beats Chipping Distance Every Time.
Youβre trying to fly it tight from 30 yards. Tour players bump and run it close because it's easier. Get the ball rolling on the ground fast.
11. Most Golfers Quit Because They Practice Wrong.
You beat balls with no target and no plan, then wonder why you hate the game. Practice like you play or donβt practice at all.
12. Follow for more ....
