When culture has changed in a program...the player’s police themselves. The coach sets the standards and direction. But there is so much power in a player telling his peers “this is how we go about our business.” Or even better “we don’t do that here.”

Congratulations to Nick Dean! What an honor and what a career. Also, congratulations to @CHelt29 and @Cody_Church9 on the impact they have had on the @MCbaseballScots program. Maryville College is a special place and these guy’s have left a lasting impression.
Congratulations to all the 2026 @MCScots WOF Inductees, especially to our very own @MCbaseballScots Nick Dean!

Burning bridges goes both ways. When you don’t get the job you never know when that job will open up again. When you are the hiring committee you never know if you made the right decision until it plays out. In everything you do be a model of good works.

On your way down at contact point
Incredible prep step view from the NLCS.
SS, 2B and CF are all in frame, giving us a great look at how their prep steps time up with the pitcher’s knee drop, the ball entering the hitting zone, and contact.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t want your feet planted at the exact moment of contact. Notice how these fielders are slightly in the air as the ball enters the hitting zone and time their feet to land a split second AFTER contact.
This allows the eyes to read where the ball is headed based on the contact angle. As the feet come back to the ground, the body can begin to self organize and align in that direction. The fielder can then use the ground to explode into a clean first step directly where he needs to go.
Landing too early can leave you stagnant or flat footed and create unnecessary false steps. Timing it correctly can help you get a cleaner first move and ultimately gain valuable range.
Small detail, but a really quality look that we don’t get often from a TV broadcast.
