Dawn Staley on a moment when pressure completely paralyzed her, and why the solution was to stop trying to lead like everyone else, and instead be unapologetically herself: “I experienced something I’ve never experienced in my life. I was paralyzed. I can’t do this. You feel the pressure because you’ve got to perform.” “You can’t be the one that dethrones the success that USA has had. I lost sleep.” “I just kind of exhaled and said, ‘I have to do it my way.’” “It’s a lonely place.” “When it’s all said and done, it’s going to be me that failed or got the job done. So I just exhaled and said, ‘I’m going to do it my way.’” “Don’t let this be an opportunity where you’re mad and in your emotions. You’ve got to learn.” “Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you… and you just be the conductor.”
