Geno Auriemma on freshman on Olivia Vukosa:
“Yeah, I don't think Olivia's had one day of practice that was as good as today. I don't know what they're teaching in Catholic schools these days, but her practice habits are not great.” (1/2)

If you believe a private school "steals" players from public schools, you're looking at the issue the wrong way.
Families make decisions they believe are best for their children. Coaches don't own athletes. Schools don't own athletes.
Instead of blaming other programs, focus on building a program that players want to be a part of, and the right players will gravitate towards your program.
That's how you win. 🤷♂️

You have to wonder if AAU with the reduction of d1 scholarships going to US high school players will continue to be this long drawn out, huge travel commitment much longer.
The way it is right now, its biggest value is money making for the people putting it on. And yeah, you can get seen, but you can get seen by coaches watching game film or HS regular season and June scholastic events too.
The AAU travel expense for kids to end up playing d3 is a tough pill to swallow and might just be what breaks the system. The top kids aren’t paying, what happens when the others figure out that the system isn’t for them?
Maybe it keeps going but there has to be a better way!!

Parents,if your kid is a rising high school freshman, AAU is over until March 2027. I had a parent tell me they had aau tournaments in the fall.WHY!!! It's high school time. Open gyms, workouts, weighlifting, & fall league. HS kids should not still be playing AAU.See u in March!

When will we change this? Run 4 Roses is the biggest scam along with many AAU basketball events!
Travel sports are absolutely not about the kids like it used to be and should be. It’s purely about money

As an AD, I remind my coaches if your top athlete’s lack of effort is negatively impacting the team more than their ability is contributing, it is time to make a change. Effort is non negotiable. Holding that standard will elevate your team, reinforce your culture, and send a clear message about expectations.

As an AD, I struggle to understand why some parents resist high standards for their kids. Growth doesn’t come from comfort, it comes from being pushed, being coached hard, and being held accountable.
As a dad, I hate seeing my kid disappointed. But I’d rather see him face adversity now than be unprepared later. Learning to handle failure, earn your role, and fight through challenges matters more than any short term result.
Winning matters. Not just on the scoreboard, but in learning how to prepare, compete, and respond when things don’t go your way. That’s what builds someone ready for the real world.

We’ve started the youth basketball season where every team name ends in elite. Play a tournament where refs don’t call anything, zone is played more than not (even though highest levels rarely play it), and a successful weekend is getting a highlight to post on social media
