TaintedBlood's response to the Government's moves tonight on infected blood compensation.

All of which I've pointed out to IBCA and government. I wasn't passing judgement, simply trying to explain government-think. My point is that nobody with HIV from this scandal, most of whom also have HCV is "alright" simply because their compensation level is higher.

I agree, Steve. What was once a compassionate, caring community has fractured into something unrecognisable since the first announcement of compensation. Virus against virus, infected against affected, alive against estates. Truly saddening.

Spot on. Instead of being grateful for relatively better health for longer and more optimistic probable outcomes for healthy life expectancy, some choose to focus on how much money others are due to receive in compensation. I know which one I'd rather have.
Attempting to explain government-think on HIV vs HCV tariffs, I get this from another campaigner:
"Spoken like a true soon to be multimillionaire. I'm alright Jack and pull the ladder up."
I had AIDS before medication was available. 4/5 of us are dead.
I'm not alright, Jack.
Incorrect. We have a broader knowledge of the evidence behind Haemophilia infections, but we have a huge number of those from the whole blood community and many affected as well, for all of whom we fight and provide support. HIV makes up only a small number of our members.
Thank you so much, Caroline! I'm very humbled by this. There are many, many others who deserve just as much recognition for their work uncovering this scandal, but I'm so pleased that we've reached a point where something like this is even possible for our community.
There are many heroes from the contaminated blood campaign, but I am so pleased to see my friend Andy Evans @CoderMonkey given a gong in the ST alternative honours. I hope a real one turns up for him and other fearless campaigners soon. @Keir_Starmer

Tainted Blood press release today, following the Cabinet Office announcement that compensation payments have started. Great spin, but the devil is in the details, as always. @CampaignTB @Haemosexual

Andrew Evans, TB Chairman: “Whilst news the first ten infected blood victims have finally been paid compensation, Sir Brian Langstaff, in the Inquiry's Second Report told the goverment to have paid victims by end 2023. 100 have died waiting. This is nothing to celebrate.
Sorry, I see you've provided your breakdown already. So if you take the interim payments into account, that would be £667, 872, right?
Replying to @DanialSAbbas @IBCA_UK
Is that with or without the £310,000 in payments you've had through the interim schemes already?
Huge thanks to @PeteWishartMP, @IanLaveryMP & others for their powerful contributions in today's Infected Blood debate. Despite their best efforts to achieve essential clarity & raise urgent concerns about the compensation scheme, the opportunity to respond positively was missed.
Not from this debate, no. Despite, as you say, the excellent contributions challenging the Government, including the ever-powerful @IanLaveryMP. There was an opportunity to give much needed clarification and to take on board urgent concerns, which was missed. We continue.

Legal representation for applicants up to a certain value has been granted, luckily. We're still waiting to see how that plays out in the real world.

around 300 cases will have been processed for claim. At that point we're expecting that processing will be ramped up significantly, and all types of claims will be eligible.

regulations has been laid, which means the infected claim cannot go ahead either. This relates to future financial losses for partners and for those applying as carers.
We're expecting to see the second set of regulations laid in around March 2025, by which time 2/

Might need to defuse this a bit, guys. Estates legislation was passed in the first set of regulations, however as we've seen with the living infected, some affected claims are inextricably intertwined with those claims and cannot be progressed before the second set of 1/
