JUST IN: PPI COMES IN HOT - HIKE ODDS KEEP CLIMBING 🔥
August PPI rose to 5.4% vs 5.3% expected. Core jumped to 4.6%, highest since June. July numbers were revised higher too.
Markets are doing the obvious: pricing a harder Fed. Odds of a rate hike are rising further, and next week’s FOMC is basically treated as a lock for a move higher.
Long yields are pushing toward 10-year highs, with 20-year levels not far off. Bessent’s buybacks can still try to pin the long end, but that no longer equals “the Fed is easing.”
Intervention in the bond market and the policy rate path are starting to tell different stories.
👉 Tomorrow’s CPI is the real decision point. Until then we’re trading a market that has already made up its mind on the hike, and a Fed that still has to explain whether it’s following the data or the pricing.
US TREASURY IS BUYING BACK $12.5B OF ITS OWN DEBT
This week the Treasury is buying $12.5B of Treasuries out of the market - more than the $5–6B Wall Street expected.
Why it matters:
2-year yields just hit 4.42%, highest since Jan 2025. Foreign sellers have been heavy. When fewer people want long-term US debt, the government steps in to keep the market orderly.
What this means for markets:
- USD — Supportive near-term if buybacks calm yields. If yields keep rising anyway, the dollar can still stay firm on rate expectations.
- US stocks — Lower yields = usually good for equities. Sticky or rising yields after the buyback = pressure on valuations.
- BTC — Likes softer yields and risk-on. A hot inflation print or higher yields hits crypto fast.
- Gold (XAU) — Benefits if the dollar softens or rates expectations ease. Stronger yields work against it.
This week’s real test:
Thursday inflation data. Soft numbers + yields falling = risk assets can run. Hot numbers + yields ignoring the buyback = risk-off stays in control.
Buybacks buy time. They don’t create real demand.

"AI agents will replace manual trading."
Yeah right
I'd love to see an AI agent sell the bottom, lever into a revenge trade, get liquidated, and then reenter the trade with double the size before closing for a catastrophic loss

You didn’t sell the top. Fine. But if you sell the bottom and buy back, you might at least lower your tax bill. Here’s how it works 👇
