What was anticipated on the eve of these Brazilian elections appears to have come to pass. Clouds are gathering over the integrity of the vote, fueled by Bolsonaro’s refusal to accept the result that sees Lula won the ballot—despite most pre-election polls and the initial vote count having pointed to his victory.
It is necessary to clarify the request to extend voting hours made yesterday during the runoff election between Flavio Bolsonaro and #Lula da Silva. While both candidates submitted such a request, it was #Bolsonaro who initiated it, as bad weather had hindered access to the polls in certain specific areas. Lula followed suit, shrewdly expanding the request to cover a much wider territory. When the ruling from the Supreme Court—presided over by a former lawyer for Lula, #CristianoZanin—was issued, it applied nationwide to all polling stations that were still open.
