I've been thinking for a long time whether I should publish this for you. Now it is hard for me to describe this post in words. I will just leave it here to share with you the pain of my country. The war that Russia started.

This has been waiting for a long time, but is finally out. This is actually a “just” a pre image to find spectroscopic targets to measure the ice content of the cloud, but I knew it would be visually spectacular. The aligned protostars were a total surprise! #jwst @NASAJPL
The stars, they aligned 🎶
See how those bright red, clumpy streaks are all slanted in the same direction to the same degree? They show aligned protostellar outflows, or jets of gas from newborn stars. Webb captures this phenomenon for the first time: go.nasa.gov/4b9t6o9

ALT A portion of the young star-forming region Serpens Nebula. It’s filled with wispy orange and red layers of gas and dust, and within that orange dust, there are several small red plumes of gas that extend from the top left to the bottom right, at the same angle. There are wispy blue filaments of glass in the bottom right corner of the image. Small points of light are sprinkled across the field, brightest sources in the field have extensive eight-pointed diffraction spikes that are characteristic of the Webb Telescope.

Every #DDay I come back to Harry Billinge ❤️
If you’re tempted to moan about something meaningless or complain today… watch Harry and think about what he, and many others, went through for the freedoms we all too often take for granted.
There aren’t many of those heroes left but they have so much to teach us.
We’ll be playing music to commemorate the anniversary throughout the day on @ClassicFM
