Then defense counsel hits Witt with this question. He doesn't really seem to be accusing Witt of lying. His point is that if Witt applied the same scrutiny to his own testimony that he applied to Benavides', he’d have to conclude he made an intentionally false statement.

Judge Carter REJECTS Trump DOJ's attempted election interference in California, denying a request to set aside 20,000 ballots.
Here's how the ruling begins.
Doc buff.ly/hSDF7SA

ALT This case is about the right of every American citizen to vote in a free and fair election. Never before in American history has the federal government, on the eve of an election, sought to coerce a state and local government to abandon their own Constitutional elections procedures and bend to the will of the Executive Branch. In bringing this lawsuit, the Executive would have this Court believe that it reigns as a sole sovereign. But California and its people are sovereign, too.

Flávio Bolsonaro is a foreign national under criminal investigation. Rubio is colluding with him to evade justice. Cowardly fascists and authoritarian thugs used to flee to Russia or Saudi Arabia to escape accountability. This administration welcomes them to America. Disgusting.

Judge sets a hearing for Friday morning at 10am to see if Stanley Woodward can reconcile in person what he refuses to do in his non-responsive filings.
Stanley's show cause response reveals that Tubby has twice ordered closure by 11/15, but ignores the part about reconciling it with his l̴i̴ representations. Spends a lot of time & space opposing retention of records, because of course he does.

"The Show Must Go On"
She was 24, a Swiss model and financial services professional, recruited by Jill Harth to the Donald J. Trump American Dream Pageant. At a press luncheon at the Trump-owned Plaza, she says Trump approached her and talked to her for about 15 minutes. He promised to arrange her U.S. visa through his associate Paolo Zampolli and to get her into NYU, saying variations of "I will take care of you."
Then, she says, Jeffrey Epstein walked up and introduced himself: "I'm Jeffrey, Don's best friend." He invited her to a party at Mar-a-Lago and offered to cover her flights and accommodations, saying "We organize many parties with Don."
Later that day, she says, a Trump representative invited her upstairs to a suite for a meeting she thought would help her career and education. She alleges Trump grabbed her from behind and raped her, tearing her dress and leaving her bleeding and bruised in multiple places.
Afterward, she says, he sat her on the bed, repeated the visa and NYU promises, and told her to stay quiet: "the show must go on." She finished the pageant in a "terrified daze," went home to Switzerland, skipped a later Trump pageant in Hawaii, and turned down his offers when he called her months later.

The Two Women Who Cracked the Abwehr Enigma: How Mavis Batey and Margaret Rock Helped Secure D-Day
(a long-form post)
Ahead of D-Day, Mavis Batey and Margaret Rock played a leading role in cracking the complex Enigma code of the Abwehr, the German Secret Service. Unlike other machines it had four rotors instead of the standard three, and they rotated randomly, with no predictable pattern. Hut 6 had been unable to break it.
On 8 December 1941 Mavis Batey broke a message on the link between Belgrade and Berlin, allowing the reconstruction of one of the rotors. Within days Knox and his team had broken into the Abwehr Enigma, and shortly afterwards Mavis broke a second Abwehr machine.
The significance of their work cannot be overestimated. MI5 and MI6 were running double agents as part of the ‘Double Cross System’ and feeding deception and fake intelligence to the Germans. Being able to decode the messages between the Abwehr and their agents ensured that the double agents were really working for the Allies. It also provided a way to monitor whether the Germans had accepted the deception.
It ensured the success of the D-Day landings because the Double Cross agents fed information to the Germans that the invasion was to occur at Pas de Calais and not at the real landing points in Normandy. Brigadier Bill Williams, Montgomery’s chief intelligence officer, said that without cracking the Abwehr Enigma, the deception operation could not have been mounted as the Germans would have moved their reinforcements from Calais to Normandy. The successes of D-Day would have had a very different outcome.
(end).
And he just finished arguing the CA election case in front of Judge Carter!

Looking like another one of Trump's political prosecutions about to blow up in their face.
Replying to @AnnaBower
Things got off to a rocky start for DOJ. The government took the novel position that a probable cause finding by a magistrate is not required for a superseding complaint unless an arrest warrant is being sought.
