As grateful as we are to have student voices at the center of the table, we felt dismissed and sensed some disrespect towards teachers. We’re looking forward to our second session and hope student voices are not only heard but acted upon.
When students add their voice to the conversations that impact their school life, great things can happen! Today, I met with a group of 25 @NYCschools student leaders who participated in last week’s walk out to learn firsthand about their concerns, ideas, & learning experiences.

I'm sorry but this is the most insulting thing that could have happened today, unless Hite himself came into my school to sneeze in my face. Gaslighting in the sickly sweet packaging of a motivational message.

Folks attacking teachers act like our goal is to work remotely. In reality, teaching online is both more work + far less joy. We don’t want to teach online—we just want ourselves, our students, + our families to be safe. We could be fighting for safe in-person schooling together!

Black students made this possible! We are going to continue to demand a #PoliceFreeLAUSD ❌🚔 & for all the funds to be invested in supporting students NOT policing them.

Working on this collaborative VIDEO reading of Dr. King's "Beyond Vietnam" at @Swarthmore was an honor. Hearing swatties articulate how militarism, racism, & poverty are interconnected in this era of "perpetual war" has been humbling&powerful. bit.ly/swatbreakssilence @CritEdPol

Rest in Power Karen Lewis. Sharkey said Lewis was a “fearless truth teller” who was a “lightning rod of criticism.” Lewis revitalized the @CTULocal1 and helped inspire unions and teachers across the country to fight for quality public schools. wbez.org/stories/karen-lewis…
