Satoshi Nakamoto saw the privacy problem in 2008.
In the Bitcoin whitepaper, he acknowledged that blockchain transactions are public and can be linked to a common owner. New keys could be generated, but they could not fully protect identity.
Zcash was built to close that gap. Shielded transactions hide the sender, receiver, and amount completely.
I’m seeing a lot of $ZEC all time high (ATH) posts, and I’d like to set the record straight.
In October 2016, a ZEC was traded at $5,941.12 on Genesis futures.
This is the only legitimate ATH: a 7x from here.

At the same # of tokens in circulation, Bitcoin was a $110B network (~8X). Today there are many more dollars in crypto, and we've had 8 yrs of inflation.

Today $ZEC has roughly 16.9M coins in circulation and is trading at ~$12.5B market cap.
When the Bitcoin network had the same level of tokens in circulation, it was a ~$110B network trading at $6.5K/coin, almost 10X from where ZEC is today.
