If you care about biotech and drug development watch this interview with Matt Gline, the CEO of Roivant, a biotech firm that is now worth $24 billion. He talks about why he thinks predictions about AI from people like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei are overly optimistic. “If Dario is right and I'm wrong, and he cures every disease in five years, man, are we all the winners from that outcome,” Gline said. “I think if you work in this industry, it is very hard not to be skeptical of any of those claims. Because, and I've said this in other settings recently too, biotech is a wood chipper that like is built to like ingest souls and shred them. It's just like such a hard business that like someone comes and they're like, oh, but I've built a computer and I'm going to push a button and all of that goes away and it just works. Like that is probably not the way that's going to go.”

DM me if you want to help out in the wetlab.
Dear cancer patients in 2030, Sorry, but you are gonna die, we decided to pace frontier AI so the cure will only be available after 2035. Sincerely, AI labs in 2026

They’re calling it the most German sentiment ever constructed. Old joke: an American mechanic fixes a car. A German mechanic walks by, inspects it, and says, “Ah, it works in practice, but does it work in theory?”
“I am daily ever more convinced that theoretical work accomplishes more in the world than practical work. Once the realm of representation is revolutionized, actuality will not hold out.” -Hegel

yesterday I was picking out substrates for a scope, but there was one very simple one that NO ONE sold, had a TON of procedures to make, but all starting materials were crazy hard to come by. and I spent half an hour agonizing over why before I realized: it was meth

Y’all are going to have to learn that Judaism & Christianity have a fundamentally different relationship with G-D. In Judaism study, argument, finding legalistic “loopholes” shows our religious engagement
There's no way to ask this without sounding a bit antisemitic but do orthodox Jews think their god is stupid or something? Do they not fear judgement for attempting to circumvent the rules of god with loopholes? This is a genuine question btw

Language learning is so broken in America. Just pissing time away for 4 or 5 years with 0 results in most cases. Curricula are a joke. Sitting students down with a bilingual side-by-side book translation and going through it aloud would mog 99% of foreign lang programs

If you are new to Indo-European studies it is almost difficult for me to convey how much of it is about cows. Gary Larson culture.
At the end of the Odyssey, Odysseus tells Penelope he’ll restore the house’s wealth by cattle-rustling. Agamemnon asks the dead suitors if they died castle-rustling One of the earliest Irish epics is the Cattle Raid on Cooley The Rigveda heavily features cattle raids

🚨 Celeste Amarilla (Paraguayan senator), on Kylian Mbappé: "This brute hasn't even learned to write. Instead of breastmilk, he grew up sucking on coconuts, and the most educated creatures he ever heard were chimpanzees. You should've given him the middle finger, Orlando Gill (Paraguay GK). A colonized Cameroonian, pretending to be French, resentful, newly rich, arrogant, and ugly. He was nervous and scared to death all game, like his whole team. They didn't even manage to score a single goal, until they got lucky with a penalty. The only thing many of us blame the team for is not giving him a full-handed slap at the end of the game. I'm not even a football fan." @RMCsport 🤮🤮🤮

Every country on earth would unhesitatingly also bribe FIFA to allow their top goalscorer to keep playing, don't let any of them make you feel bad about that.
