French, German and Spanish opened doors to friendships in Spain, adventures in Kosovo and a lifetime of seeing the world differently. To every student: be curious, be brave, learn a language and discover just how far it can take you. Your next adventure starts with one new word.

French opens doors to diplomacy and culture; German to science and philosophy. Spanish connects continents. Italian brings music and art to life. Latin sharpens our understanding. Every language offers a different way of seeing the world, and that may be its greatest gift.

Languages aren’t just school subjects - they’re keys to connection. Portuguese got me breakfast first in Cascais, Spanish saved a New York taxi fare, and Albanian made me feel local in Pristina. Another language creates opportunities and leads to moments you never anticipated.

Language learning is a journey without limits. Start with one language, and you open doors to new cultures, communities and ways of thinking worldwide. It’s not about being a ‘linguist’ - it’s about curiosity. Wherever you start, the connections multiply & your world grows.

Another language can boost your earning potential, but it will definitely open up a new world, change your outlook, insights & perceptions, introduce you to new people & cultures, make you better at what you love & hone your interpersonal skills. Languages offer you so much more.

If you’re lucky enough to learn French, German or Spanish at school, you’ll also learn diversity, empathy & friendship, communication, debate & expression. Plus, you’ll have opened up other languages & cultures. Another language is a whole new life experience & a new worldview.

Learn a language if you're curious about how other people live & think, if you want to be even better at what you're good at, if you want to make your CV shine, if you want to explore the world. If your school offers French, German or Spanish, you have an adventure ahead of you.

And here is a report of our most recent French exchange. Makes it all worthwhile: challoners.com/c/news/april-…
I was lucky enough to go on a French exchange, two Spanish exchanges & a German exchange at school. I stayed with a Dutch/French/German-speaking family in Belgium at 16. I went on a madcap camping trip to Portugal at 18. School languages are just the start of a lifelong journey.

When you learn a language at school, you're learning history, music, geography, politics, sociology, sport, science, literature & more. French leads to Spanish & Italian. German opens up Danish & Dutch. Languages add value to every subject & take your world view to another level.

Another language is the difference between togetherness & isolation, empathy & apathy, solidarity & discord, full colour & monochrome. Whether you start with French, German or Spanish, you're opening a new window on the world, finding new possibilities & expanding your horizons.

If you have the chance to learn German, grab it. It takes languages to another level & makes sense of Danish, Dutch, Swedish & more. It explains English grammar. It's the official language of 6 countries & the 12th most spoken language in the world. It's well worth the challenge.

Languages bring a whole multitude of subjects together. German can be business & engineering. French can be diplomacy & literature. Spanish can be music & cinema. Latin can be law & medicine. Another language is every subject, for everyone, seen through other people's eyes.

A reminder from @HelenMyers @ALL4language that severe grading at GCSE in Modern Foreign Languages is a proven reality, not a perception. In Northern Ireland, we are still waiting for @Education_NI to release @CCEA_info grading in Mod Langs report, conducted in autumn 2019 #LW2024

Languages aren't inherently difficult. They're new ways of engaging with the world. Whether you're travelling, relating to other people or training your brain, languages benefit us all. You don't need to be a linguist. Plus, learning a language gives you an edge across the board.
