Hello everyone! We have changed our name from Dallas Stops Evictions to DFW Tenants Union to make the tactics we use to organize tenants for safe and affordable housing more distinct.

The Texas power grid never got close to the edge this morning, but prices for electricity skyrocketed nonetheless.

Please read and listen to these folks' stories. We all deserve safe housing, food, and water. Houston, as one of the wealthiest cities in the world, has the means to make that happen.

Last year HOC reached out to reporters in an effort to expose the abuse many in our community face from Houston’s housing/non-profit network.
If you talk to people who are unhoused in Houston, or are working to help people find stable housing, the picture is not a rosy one.

Just this week the city released an audit of the Comprehensive Housing Policy in Dallas that says racist policies and practices have systematically “excluded Black and Brown residents from safe, quality, affordable housing, and other opportunities to build wealth.”
I'm so mad.

Heartbreaking message this morning. A year after I wrote about horrendous conditions and threat of evictions at the formerly city managed low-income Estelle Village Apartments, one of the women I interviewed is now at risk of being evicted despite none of the issues being fixed.

Tenants of an Oak Cliff apartment complex found out that their landlord hasn’t been paying their electricity and it’s about to be cut off
@CityOfDallas (expectedly) told them that they’re on their own
Wonder if @FOX4 @wfaa @NBCDFW or @CBSDFW @CBS11

Cashapp: $dallasstopsevictions
After repeated attempts to delay this, at the end of the day, the landlords and the police could not let human needs get in the way of their moneybags. So we are raising money to help relocate a family after they were forced from their home.
Please help a single mother of three pay off the back rent she owes! $Demarcushawthorne is her cashapp. Thank you ✊🏽
Join us this Friday 09/24, at 11am, as we mobilize and struggle against forced evictions, we are also demanding that rents and mortgages be cancelled! We will be at JP court Precinct 1 Place 1.
Judge Jones is notorious for being a lackey for landlords to carry out unlawful evictions, a majority of tenants that go through his eviction court are working class Black women, and the way they are treated in court is absolutely despicable.

This is what our communities are dealing with. Evictions are unacceptable, but evictions during a global pandemic are inhumane. #HousingIsAHumanRight
