I’d rather Oklahoma give that kid from Chipotle’s last year the start than John Mateer.
Brent Venables addresses quarterback situation heading into Florida: “I’m not talking about depth charts or anything like that. I think our guys believe in John (Mateer). Some of the decisions we’ve made is because of that.”

Here's why I'd stick with Sandell:
1. He won the Groza Award in 2025.
2. He hit the walk-off kick against Texas two weeks ago.
3. One rough afternoon in Starkville doesn't erase that.
His accuracy needs to come back, but I'd keep him kicking while it does. #Sooners
Now that Arbuckle is gone, Oklahoma needs to:
1. Resist the urge to hire someone quickly and/or cheaply.
2. Bring in an experienced OC. That means a tried and tested play caller. SEC experience would be a huge plus.
3. No Oklahoma former players!
4. Whoever they get MUST be able to bring in their own people.

I think what baffles me the most is that Ben Arbuckle (and Brent Venables, as his boss) flat out refuses to try any other quarterback. Not even for a single drive.
Just does not make any sense and Mateer will get at least one of them fired.

Here’s the thing….Arbuckle and Venables have done this to themselves with their refusal to look at any quarterback other than John Mateer.
Arbuckle has tried RPO game…quick game…short game…half field rollouts…12/13 personnel…empty sets…Mateer just is what he is (a BAD QB) and his inability to read a defense, see the field, and trigger just negates any consistency/effectiveness for the offense.
Do all the other facets of the offense need to be better? Of course.
But again…a competent QB changes everything and now…with no goals on the table and staring a losing season in the face, it will ultimately most likely cost people their jobs…and it should.

I don’t know how you can watch Oklahoma and think Brent Venables has this train headed down the right track. They’re gonna fire Ben Arbuckle and blame John Mateer, but the finger should be pointing at the head coach whose job it is to be a coach for both sides of the football and has completely failed at half of his responsibility for a majority of his OU tenure.
Peyton Bowen has played well enough this season to be in the conversation for a Jim Thorpe Award finalist spot. #Sooners
Looking at Oklahoma’s remaining schedule, this was the only game that seemed like a better-than-average chance to win. Not sure where they pick up their 6th win to become bowl eligible. What a disgrace!!

THIS!!!! Head coach isn’t just worried about one side of the ball. He is the Lincoln Riley of Defense but least Riley’s offense performed at a high level at all times.
