As data centers and other large energy users place enormous new demands on our electric grid, I'm fighting to make sure Virginia families and small businesses aren't forced to pick up the tab. These facilities should pay their fair share of the new power generation, transmission lines, and infrastructure upgrades necessary to serve them. Those costs should not be shifted onto hardworking Virginians through higher electricity bills. That's why I cosponsored the bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act, which passed the House overwhelmingly, 417–3. The legislation would ensure that data centers and other large energy users pay for the additional electricity infrastructure they require, not Virginia families and small businesses. I'm also working to strengthen our existing electric grid, protect Virginia's water resources, and ensure local communities have a say in decisions affecting their land and natural resources. My position is simple: Data centers should pay their own way. Virginia families shouldn't be left footing the bill.
