I'm assuming twitter employees with stock got $$$ when it was taken private. What's the chance that it tanks enough that a bunch of former employees can buy it back & turn it into a worker owned cooperative?
Come and work within the team of SPINs. We are looking forward to welcoming researchers who want to develop and apply cool methods of fMRI and/or fNIRS for brain physiology and cognitive and clinical neuroscience @ISMRMIberian @SfNIRS @ISMRM @icpnetwork
📣 We are hiring! New funded postdoctoral positions are available at #BCBL! 🔎 We are looking for candidates for our “Signal processing in neuroimaging” group. 📅 The deadline to submit your application is the 30th of November. All the information and requirements here 👇

new posting for a junior faculty position in neuroimaging at BU BME! a great environment for neuroscience and imaging!
Do you work at the intersection of imaging neurotechnologies, data analytics, and cognitive neuroscience? Ready to lead your own independent lab? Boston University has a search for a junior tenure-track faculty in the field of neuroimaging academicjobsonline.org/ajo/j…

The same day I decided to download all my tweets, I got a notification of #MyTwitterAnniversary I'm not super-active here so I can wait to see which mastodon servers others like, but I doubt I'll be spending as much time here in another year.

Also realizing I opened this account before the @SfNtweets 2013 meeting because twitter became a critical meeting navigation tool. I suspect the meeting next week will be a good stress/functionality test for neuro people trying out mastodon servers.

Hoping @SfNtweets has some presence on mastodon. Depending on how it goes, they could be a sufficiently large/stable org to host a neuro-focused mastodon server or support ($, time, facilitation) a more general science community.

Summary 🧵 of our latest @NatureComms w @cvnlab & @elimerriam: nature.com/articles/s41467-0… V1 neurons are organized in cortical columns according to their preferred orientation. It would seem that standard fMRI resolution is too coarse to study these orientation-selective signals...

Nicely unsubtle: Opaque, all-or-nothing thresholding, even if well-intentioned, places undue influence on arbitrary filter values, hinders clear communication of scientific results, wastes data, is antithetical to good scientific practice, and leads to conceptual inconsistencies.
3 images of the same FMRI results: A) what was analyzed, B) usual results with thresholding, C) perhaps what *should* be shown? Highlight results in their full context---nothing lost, understanding gained! #highlightdonthide biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

A noteworthy addition in this thread is that eLife output will be labeled "eLife Reviewed Preprints" I think this does a good job at distinguishing the current from the new model. I appreciate this experimentation, but still have issues with scientific communication 1/8

I’m also curious to see how the revision process will work in practice. If an article is revised, I assume there will be a non-trivial amount of time where they new revision is live without reviews. Will the old reviews be tagged to the new manuscript? 7/8
1
When there’s a new revision & new reviews, will the older reviews, which might contain still valid points be hidden within version histories or will the active reviews attempt to compile active critiques from all past reviews? 8/8
Multiple concerns: Requires a level of trust that has been shown not to exist. As with pre-print servers, there will be intentionally dishonest pubs (profit/Info warfare). The goal will be to be good enough to avoid desk rejection & then they get to say published in eLife. 1/9

Rejection criteria continued: (2)Plausible interpretations of results & clear statements of limitations & alternative interpretations. Stats or design that makes data uninterpretable fits here. (3) No warning signs of fraud or unintentional mistakes. 8/9

Bad science can survive peer review, but not even attempting to filter out bad science sounds like giving a lot of work to reviewers & editors without creating a communal benefit of cleaner and more readable scientific literature. 9/9
